Tracklist:

1. Homeworld
2. Silicon Sunrise
3. Magnetik
4. Refractions
5. Hallusignorita
6. More Directions
7. Avalon
8. High Orbit
9. Melody Machine

A very inequal quality production all over the album is the major caracteristic of Refractions.

A result which can be explained by 2 bad points, first one, the more or less ibiza feeling touch among the tracks which can be heard (especially in Silicon Sunrise with his naive melody ,Refractions) ; second one some few tunes are a bit flavourless.

When the tracks aren’t boring (i mean those mentionned above), the rest is really enjoyable for not saying more

Homeworld starts very morning, nearly chilling indeed as it reminds in its intro some Carbon Based Lifeforms productions. Around 2:45, there’s a a turn into dubby-ibiza tones but nothing too cheezy here. The last part of the track gets more psy with some twisted autotuned voice fx.

Magnetik is an exception coz don’t belong eitheir to the average songs nor the highlights, it’s a rather good one without being a masterpiece. Quite cosmic, Magnetik has this living energy touch more (punchier production, mutant brassy tones + warm guitar notes) with & also some muffled fx that makes the difference from the average stuffs from the album. So, gets automactically catchier for your ears.

The palm of the grooviest track is decerned to More Directions. Some quick electric riffs confers some stamina & maintain a level of vivacity pressure which could lack due to the morning full-on style oriented. After that, many slighty sour tones are employed to make grow the tense density.

Groovy too, High Orbit is more funky-groovy for me in his first half comparing to More Directions.

Melody Machine takes you over the clouds in order to dance first with sky (floating period) & wind ( captivating dancefloor moment). Some slight perturbations appears, probably naughty grey clouds, which are musically symbolized with some twisted fx on a growing up metallic bass while another one plays exactly the same line as encountered note by note in picked way in a Slap’s track ‘Total’. Then, you’ve got the alternance of overwhelming rain & lull reprresented by a confusion-melting of the elements pre-quoted.

Highlights by order :9,1,6,8
Then :3

According to me, Protoculture productions still need more maturation to get the 'respected artist level', from which he isn't very far indeed.

Mark :7,5/10

I`m supporting this guy for long time since the first track that he released, actually, after Metaphysical I was like in love with his music, when I listened the rmx for Rinkadink - Ultima I Was like.....dammmn...this guy will be huuuuge soon, then I listened his album with Shane Gobi, and I was a bit disapointed because it doesnt have the feeling I liked dso muxh in the previous releases, I think he is trying to be as good as "someone" when he should try to be better then ANYONE! Thats my philosophy at least! Anyway, its not a bad album I like many tracks inside..its just something different from what i expected. And by the way, his track Wallpapered (released under Psystation rec.) is amazing so, he is doing very good anyway hheh

This is killer morning noises... Great prodution!
The sun just refuses to rise if you're not spinning one of these tracks...
My favorites are the whole album.
Avalon is just amazing...
No words for More directions.
Silicon Sunrise: just what the sample says --> New Technology!
High Orbit: powerfull full on!
Magnetic have an envolving sample and a nice guitar noise.
All other tracks are just as great...
This, together with the Triptick album, is a must play in every sunrise or sunset...
Support great artists, buy this album!
Respect!

Indeed a very good album, but as Le Lotus Bleu has mentionned, the housy tunes in 2 tracks are really unecessary. It ruins the album imo.

But appart from that it's a very good album. More Directions is an amazing track!!!           Majority is never right!

Thanx for all the crits, albeit good or bad. I have to admit myself, one or two of the tracks as mentioned did have a sort of "ibitha" or "housy" to them. I was worried about this myself, then again I thought this is what I enjoyed making so I used it for the album. I also wanted the album to appeal to as many people as possible. There's a little bit of dark, a little bit of light, a little bit of cheese.... and so forth. Anyway, you can never fully satisfy everyone. Anyway, once again, thanx very much for the comments. It's much appreciated.
Cheers

I could have done without some of the vocals, but the really nice bonus tune easily makes up for it. Very excellent melodic album. Faves: More Directions, Melody Machine, Peekaboo, High Orbit... recommended!

This is the best album i heard since 3 years. Please keep this style, these emotional melodies. You are a real musician, not like 80% of producer these dayThis is true music, not like 80% of the today's trance releases.

Favorites : all with no exceptions

Great Idea from Nano for The bonus track "Peekaboo"

Amazing!!! More directions & Melody Machine are stuck inside my head ... can't stop listening to these two tracks

Congrats to Protoculture, hope to ear more from you, and hope to see you here in Portugal, preferably in an open-air party when the sun stars to climb. Boom 2004 maybe? Would be great..

Never ever be afraid to do what you feel like doing. If people don't understand it or like it's their problem not yours... First of all make music for your own pleasure.... Then you keep it real and honest

Good luck with the release
