trance cafe definitely have the top quality prog trance parties in the tokyo area... if u get a chance to go to their outdoor party in the summer (usually held every year) u will see the hardcore prog trance community in japan in action... last years was excellent, great vibe, great sounds, excellent location.. do a chek on the internet (japanese yahoo) type in trance cafe, go to their site, and u will see some picks and lineups from their past parties... IMHO, their parties have some of the most shanti vibes possible in the tokyo party scene as of current.
other than that man, well for instance, atmos is comin this weekend to rock some dancefloors in japan, so there definitely are things happenin in the prog scene, just the majority is more full-on...

Well, I don't know about the others. But I've got this allergy to full-on, and have got more and more progressive parties/cds. And my guess is that the prog scene is getting bigger, because full-on really is bad for dancing and getting in a good mood. And more to the point, when the so famous japanese scene was born, it was born good under goa and progressive.

Peace and Love.

So are parties just one or the other? Either progressive or full on?

Is there any combination or musical journey? Ie. full on night and morning moves into progressive daytime?

Thanks for the info

Planetary Nation 001 was a nice mix of dark, slower music during the night (cant remember every artist but X-dream played a spooky DJ set), there was some progressive represented here and there, and some full-on. It was really perfect. After going to so many parties that were either all full on or all progressive, it was very refreshing to have music that actually suited the time of day and the energy level of the crowd. I believe it was Jorg who finished us off with high energy madness!!

I didnt go to Planetary Nation 002 so I can't say if they continued that style of party.

Its does seem there`s more in store for those of us craving some nice progressive sounds. I was just checking out the Solstice website (while listening to my Phony Orphants "Symphony" album) and was pleasantly surprised to see a posting for a party w SON KITE and PHONY ORPHANTS in Tokyo on Feb 19th. As my luck would have it,I`m busy that night(f*ck!) but if you can go,then go! If you haven`t heard Phony Orphants yet, they are making some sublime tunes..IMHO one of my favourite albums I picked up last year, and of course Son Kite rocks!
Is there a chance of these sweet Scandinavians coming to the Kansai area too?
Thev`ve come this far, they have to share their music with the rest of Japan! Hopefully one of you Kansai area organisers is already on top of this

For a big outdoor party featuring primarily progressive sounds, my first recommendation (of course!) is the labyrinth. the music policy there is cutting-edge upfront sounds from trance, techno, and house, with a very heavy leaning towards the underground progressive house sound. there is a definite story at this party with a chance from nightime to daytime music (but no "full-on" headache music). trancecafe also has a great vibe, but i think they should diversify their sound a little. stargate used to do good parties, but i'm not sure if they're still doing parties anymore. maniac IQ does great progressive parties in the kansai area, and they will have a big outdoor party again this year. for the tokyo club scene, my favorite parties are the small ones organized by tri-bute, because you can catch dj so play the last set every time and they have a wonderful vibe. the best progressive party in japan this month will be the D-Nox/Dj So party in cube called crosslink--i would definately check that one out. D-Nox is in my top five dj's in the world these days!

ay yes, i forgot about primitive! they do really nice small parties with a great vibe, and do a lot of outdoor parties in the summer for 100-200 people.

Thanks for the info Russ!
The Labyrinth party you organized last year was very enticing but I had to work that weekend. Hopefully this year I`ll be able to make it.
