See here.... Two of top ten Dj's in the world playing progressive house. Digweed and Deep Dish, sometimes even Sasha or Carl Cox. See top 50, half of Dj's there are artists for Global Underground (Best selling progressive item) which is best selling item of any electronic music. Best dj's around the globe fight to win the honour to be there. Just do me a favor listen to any of these top 100 dj's sets or music and compare to what you call progressive trance. Marc O'Tool is one of them. but he is part of us psy-ppl too, so don't forget it.

You are comparing apples and oranges. You are talking about dj mixes versus sales for artist album. Would artist album from progressive acts like Evolution, 16B, Chab, Futureshock etc. sell as much as Atmos, Freq, Son Kite?? ALthough i am not so sure |

hi,
i just want to say between the fullonstuff and proggystuff that its not necessary realy what sound someone do. its is more important to have an own sound and not copies of each other, and i am sure that you agree with me that a lot of artists today copy each other (and are forced from a lot of labels to do, sadly).
i understood notenlightatend (? what a name) in the way that he wants more individuality and not the mainstreamstuff either prog or something else, and that there is no improvement in music if no one is brave enough to define the own style, what i missed a long time too , by the way. (thank good i realized)
but: there are some artists out there, like sensient or marc o tool, which are both "progressive" but completly different, because both have a different vision. and if every musician would have an own style ther would be no need to talk about proggy or not.
anyways, sales dont have to do anything with quality. sales are also a result of timing, marketing, and offcourse luck. to say that sales are an indicator for quality is a trap, the same trap which made people believe that popmusic is good music. they rule the charts but the didnt sold the most cds. paradoxum? no. because they just represent the sales of the week, not of the year for example. there have been many cds from jazz to rock which sold much better as britney spears worldwide and never got an act on mtv-music awards. sales are relative and objective but music is always subjective and never objective this is why you cant relate sales to quality.
