Progressive is all about crossing borders and letting the line between regular progressive and psy-progressive fade away to create one concept of trance. DJ Taucher has a good view on things. You can read some of his thoughts inside the booklets of the Eye-Trance series (starting from number 6, when he got himself involved in that series as a regular contributor).           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

I don't think progressive was gone but certainly it has advanced again lately especially in Scandinavia (Some brilliant stuff coming out of there) and the best thing is that The progressive being released is (in my opinion)more pyschedlic and less cheezy than what many would call (Fullon).

Also I heard that in the Underground parties in Japan, progressive is what it's being played at night time.

Hello to everyone!
I have a question to all of you?

How is it possible to define a style of music progressive?
If progressive means "Moving forward; advancing", how is it possible, to call a bunch of releases "progressive" ?

It can be a progressive album....or an artist that is always pushing the boundaries more than the others....but a music style "Progressive" ...? Or as lately I ve listened "Psy-Progressive"...How is it possible?

all the opinions are well accepted.

Thanks to all of you in advance....

Have fun

Hmmm....

Here we are again....once more abusing the word "progressive"....Progressive trance...progressive house....and so on...

But who is the one that defines the music style?
Is it any kind of higher force? (I doubt about), or is it just the human need to give an identity to everything/everybody? (I am sure about).

Is always nice to express the proper thoughts and ideas, but let's try to not abuse everything over here!

That's all...

best regards

I dont think progressive has ever went away..

I didnt get so excited about limelight, but antix, oh yeah, thats a very good one.. bought it the other day..

and nolightatend... you need to be a bit more humble in the way you talk.. its as if you know whats music and people do not...
I really like progressive house too, but I dont like AT ALL sasha and digweed, as you mentioned.. To me all they play seems like the same track, atari music... Yeah they mix well, but is that enough? I cant stand a set that has 1 good track between 10 average tracks...
and Marc o tool? yeah he´s good, but imo not so impressive as you think.. I would name many many other prog house djs before naming him to play in my ´dream party´...

as for freq.. yeah maybe he makes very similar music, but when he came out it was very good.. return to the masters (original) was very good at the time.. he can make some dancefloor bombs.. but yeah, now its a bit boring.. But I have hopes he will change his style sometime..

son kite, yeah I dont like their sound so much, I preffer much more minilogue, but you saying its neo-full on is a bit too much..

and dot kite - I think this discussion of what´s progressive and who defines the music style is kinda obvious (at least for me), and we know its subjective, and that progressive actually means ´innovating´ while many so called progressive is not inovating.. But here we are talking about a specific ´taste´ of music, and the best word that most people know to define this taste is ´progressive´, even if we know this is not totally objective and scientific and the same for all, so just let it be

I feel like the old progressive of 2001 was more authentic, but maybe because I'm a nostalgic person.

altough 2004 was a great year for prog-trance, I think most of it still feels pretty "unreal".

i cant be bothered talking about defintions of progressive cause its been done many times, but yes nolitghtatend you do come across as smug and full of yourself in your post. Just because you think that style of music is superior doesnt mean it is...it only caters more for what you personally look for in music. i respect that style and like it too but its not pushing the boundaries in the ways that i want in music

So because Britney Spears sell more albums than Marc'O'Tool her music is better? A rotten comparison, I know - just trying to prove that quality in music can’t directly be measured based on sales like you do           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

nolightatend, i find it hard to believe that you called Freq low quality music. I recommend you check him out live. Maybe his style is not for everyone, but the quality of production is amazing, the basslines are simply out of this world, their power is something I have never heard matched in a party environment.

I definitely like Soul Surfer as was mentioned earlier, and i like the idea of more tribal trance. i just like the rythms and grooves of it...very easy to grab onto with your mind.
