First of all I need to say this:
1. This in not a topic to promote in any way downloading from the net.
2. I am not a saint and not a super rich person so I admit that sometime I myself download, but buy a lot to.

Do u think that E - mule. DC++ and more, has a part in promotion of artists?

lol,
Yes and it's quite obvious. Just some artists are merely dumb or trick you saying it is not. It is best promotional tool, also great money source.

I think it is a great tool for discovering new artistsa and diffrent styles. and then, if you're one of those who actually buy their music, you can go and get that cd.

Yes! I do belive that its kind of a promotional way for the Artist, whether they like it or not..
All this download utils are helping the listeners the explore more artists, even if it can be done by another "legit" way! Lets say that a friend of mine recommended me to listen to some project he thinks its great, I rather check it out first, and if I realy think its worth it, then I show my respect to the artist by buying the album! I did it many times, and I'll keep doing it!

Anyhow, I got some feedbacks from artists about some tracks of them beeing released by groups like 'PsyCZ' etc, and they wanted to thank them, since imagine yourself, your a new artist, and you want to promote yourself, what promotion is better then getting your tracks spreaded and downloaded all over the internet? If the listeners liked it, they would probably but the next album, but its all depends on the listener himself..

So I guess it got positive and negative effects for both ways, but I rather to look on it on the positive way, dont know what about others..

Negative side is only matter for 3rd parties ie. labels and promoters because they loose money. Also negative side is that artist who don't need in promotion loose large amount of money because of piracy. Since psytrance is small scene without super duber stars i think it is possitive for artist and in some cases labels. Since sometimes their potential, next release buyers are listeners of piracy.

IMO downloading CAN be a promotional tool, depends on the people downloading...
if a new album or comp is out and u dont have a record shop in your city, or the 30 sec. samples from psyshop are not enough to get an impression, u can dl the stuff from the net, listen to it, buy what u like and delete the rest... that would be a promotional tool.
but there are a lot of people saying "why should i buy, when i can dl all that stuff from the net..." on the other hand these people wouldnt buy anything if there would be no downloads...
its not my intention to defend downloading mp3s, but thats the way i see it.           War is terrorism with a bigger budget.

Well i dont think its a bad thing! it is hurting the industry though! but on the other hand the trance labels deliver verry limited advaticement for the artists so i think from an artists point of view its an ok and cheep ad! but for the labels its not cool atall!

some not well non artists, put their 1st releases on line so can b known..or upload some tracks in order 2 make them known..
it is good..bad it is cause the people who make so much effort on makin a cd comin out don´t earn the money they sometimes invest, or earn what should b deserve 2 them!           ...

One of the negative sides is that here at Brazil 90% of DJs at parties play mp3... No respect for the artists and the public...

I don't consider DJs who play mp3 as professionals.

This is right full_on, making money from piracy is ugly and much more immoral than downloading and deleting.
Djs should pay taxes for tracks they use as well, to artists via Central Musicians Organization in your country and to country from business. This is very ugly.
Brazil is not alone, Israel joins the shame top. Im can understand Brazil is poor country but Israel not that poor so it's ppl, money hungry ppl!

I'd say d/ling stops me from buying bad cd's. And it's good for the environment.

But it's soooooooooo lazy!

anyone who thinks downloading is positive for an artist should shoot themselves so the world will be slightly less stupid.

and 4 min samples on saikosounds is plenty to give you an idea if you like it or not.

ill cut out my left nut if you find me one artists who is happy for their music to be taken for free - but as willy wonka says, artists are dumb and try to trick you so what would they know about it

youre all delusional

By downloading I discovered alot of amazing music I would normally never have even heard of. Later I buy the original albums ofcourse. Also it's great way to get older music that's not for sale anymore.
And in general I love the idea that you can always log into cyberspace and find almost any piece of music ever made coded in ones and zero's..it's totally cyberpunk But let's not forget: support your fave artists!

Quite recently I've deleted every single MP3 I had previously downloaded, and started collecting albums. The truth is that I think you can see downloading as a "try before you buy" in a decent way. It's quite handy, but what's even more handy is the posibility to have these albums several decades into the future, all in 320kpbs if you want to rip them, and at the same time feel you've contributed just a little to the whole scene. And when you don't want to listen to the music from your computer, burning the music over to CD-R's are a pain. Therefore, I can't really blame people for doing either way with it. As long as you don't make money out of downloading and selling, I see no gap in the good ol' morale.
