Posford = "Trance God"?

Naturally, I anticipated Zombi's "posford isn't special" remarks. He's not a god. He just does psychedelic music. Today, that's pretty rare. You either get psychedelic stuff (eg, Mandalavandalz) or music (eg, Haldolium). Posford just reached the best balance between the two up to date. His understanding of sound is beyond outstanding (rivalled by very few), his understanding of psychedelia is deep (again, very few reach his levels), and most of all, he looks at his music as music, not as something to make people dance. He understands what's special in trance music that other styles can't duplicate. And each track of his is something creative and totally different than all the rest. It's just a combination of qualities that very few reach each one alone, and only he combines them all.
Ohh yeah, like so many people added here, it's all just my opinion.

My opinion:
There are no Gods. He is an artist.
I bet that if there's a God, he are an artist too. So Simon and God have something in common, but he's not a God...

Ok, i agree with you all, let's drop the 'god' part. But let's not drop the fact that Simon Posford is a great musician not only in trance the but also in other styles (he recently released a dub album). Not to mention that he influencied many of todays known artists...
One more question(this one is for you Luis):
If you're a human, then how come you don't like GMS???

Sorry for continuing the "God" line, Luiz, but I figured I'd better respond since I recall writing something like "Posford=God" in some thread at some point in the past. Obviously it was an exaggeration (or at least he's no more God than you or I or a rotten apple or anything else, in my opinion). But he can express with music those special realms that one can often barely remember, never mind somehow communicate to others (without taking them there directly). That's why the Shpongle album name "Tales of the Inexpressible" is so appropriate, I feel. In that way, Posford does for my ears what Alex Grey does for my eyes ( http://www.alexgrey.com/ ). Posford may not be God in the traditional sense, but I agree when he suggests he's a shaman, a magician, and the sun is purple!
I don't think people should idolize him at all, but I for one have deep respect for the guy and really appreciate the amazing art he has produced.

Is this forum really so predictable? I suppose many could have also guessed I'd drop in late with some psychospiritual mumbo jumbo. Ha! |
