The 800 has so many advantages over the 600 that the only reason you would ever buy a 600, imo, is because they can be gotten really cheap used right now

Big bad things about the 600:
* The 600 is analog and the 800 is digital. Even if you like analog, the 600 is way noisier than other popular analog mixers.
* On the 600 you can only assign one channel to either side of the crossfader, where with the 800 you have unlimited options in this respect.
* The 800 has the roll effect.
* The 800's knobs have a big white mark on them that's more visible in the dark
* The 800's master volume is a knob rather than a fader, so it's harder to accidentally knock it around while mixing.
* The 800 is pretty much more visible in the dark in general.

I agree with the visibility. However, since owning a 600 for a year I've gotten completely used to it and that's not a problem anymore (overall, white marks are the best though).

Effects- meh.

Fix for the master volume as a fader on the 600- just tape it down .           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
