Mac Book Pro

Since iŽm on mac, i would never ever buy a windows pc again!!!!!!!!!

Me too..i consider to buy a Mac Pro from Iceland, since the Euro is quite strong and it would cost 1400€ instead of 1900€ all without VAT...           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

ALienware is the way to go for PC Laptops IF you can afford them.

Also you should consider waiting to see what happens with the new I7 processors, if nothing else all other cpu`s will come down in price, i know they havent produced a laptop version yet - but they will !!

I have heard Ocelot had big time problems with Alienware, try to check your software on it before you buy, if at all possible??? Thinking about this too here lately...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

alienware M17:
https://origin-image.alienware.com/images/prod_info_img/cases/configurator_cases/cfg_M17_black_skullcap.jpg

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.26Ghz 12mb Cache
HD 320 GB 7,200 RPM 16 MB cache
4GB RAM
17''

US$2,549
-------------------------------------

And today i saw on my work an HP:

HP pavillon dv-7 series

-Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz
-17'' widescreen
-HD 500GB 5,200RPM

US$1,199

-------------------

Now i see, the alienware is really expensive, but a first tought of buyn one cause here has an desktop alienware (not mine)and is the most amazing machine i ever saw, but....

With this difference i can buy m-audio reference monitors, for sure an original cubase 4,(i hate use pirate programs) and an midi keyboard or a microkorg

What would you take? I think i changed my mind and i m going with the HP so i can pick the difference and buy the others stuff, but i never had a HP (right now i am on a vaio that i wanna sell) i wanna see some owners opnions...

[]`s peace

looks like the alienware has double the processing
power and a faster (but smaller) harddisc ...
probably different RAM modules were used, too.

For goodness sake, don't go with alienware. A few years back a friend of mine won a class action lawsuit for their laptops. They overheated constantly when running a load.

Find yourself a friend preferrably who knows what he is doing. Have him build you a laptop. Or if that's not an option have a mom and pop computer shop build you a laptop. Compare prices of course.

Alienware is overpriced.

Companies like Dell, Sony, and HP. They rip you off on certain parts. They only tell you the specs that sound good. quad core 3ghz processor, 4gb ram, 8800gt video card. Well theres some vital information missing from this. Which cores specifically is the processor? What is the clock speed and timings of the memory that is in the machine? How much onboard memory does the 8800gt have and theres a few other differences in graphics cards as well. Power supply is another very important aspect that is overlooked on many spec sheets I've read. I don't know maybe these companies are better now and less expensive, but I checked about a year a go and they weren't. I don't feel like lookin again.

Peace (puff puff, doesn't pass)

btw I build custom rigs You pay wholesale price for parts, only thing you pay me for is labor. PM me if interested in a quote. That goes for anybody. I can build a mean PC. I'm sure many of you on here are able to build your own PCs and laptops as well. Desktop prices have gone down SO SO much lately. I am about to buy a new desktop myself. You can build a nice ass quadcore system with 4gb ram, blu ray/dvd burner/player, etc even with a nice graphics card for around 800 or so. Also, I know most if not all the windows tweaks for performance and audio in windows. I can overclock your machine as well if your on a tight budget.

And for the record...

A mac is no better than a PC at music production. It is a matter of taste. The biggest issue is that windows comes broken in the box lol. You have to fix it after you install it in order to get top performance out of it. Also, you must maintain the system regularly if its not a dedicated machine in order for it to maintain top functioning. Well, you always MUST defrag but spyware, new software, anything but audio stuff coming in needs to be cleaned out of the registry when its no longer in use.

Yes, quality parts, a computer that is worth what you are paying. I doubt you will find that at HP or any large manufacturer.           http://www.youtube.com/user/trawhi (tutorials)

Hp is decent, Acer also makes some nice ones
i think you can become happy with a decent Hp or Acer

i suggest you check the net and read up a little.. im sure you can find a pretty cheap laptop that will work well.

also when it comes to computers you need a little luck
and sometimes you also need to work hard with them, reinstall OS and such..

i think there was a thread were artist that play live told what they had done with their laptops to speed them up...
