How does everyone feel about the way a party flows? I've been to shows that start off with a techno or tech house DJ and move onto full on, or even darker stuff. What about starting a party with some lower speed full-on type djs?           www.dants.net

i think that a party should start with dark-psy music turning into full on psy morning to full on to progressiveto minimal.

If it's a psy festival, I like starting the main stage with psyprog.

If it's a 1 nighter, 1 stage; anything from chill, psybreaks to psyprog works imo.

1 nighter, 2 stages- psyprog, save the chill and breaks for the other stage.

That's how I do parties anyway...           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Oh right, that's important. It's a one night in a bar or a club. 9PM-2AM. Makes things a bit stickier I suppose.           www.dants.net

IMO, it's always good to start with a tech/minimal/groovy progressive to some heavy stuff & eventually to some tight full on!           We were born naked & grow up to become wicked.

Sometimes it's also about more than the flow. Sometimes you gotta book other genres to get people to come out (especially if it's at a club or bar that is looking for people/profit). Some minimal/tech to start the night in that case would be great. I also think breaks is a good genre to start a main stage with for any party.

On a related note I might be doing a one night, one stage party that will end up having edm to start. I'm hoping to get this really good deep house dj and see how it flows into everything else (before some dark psy headliners).

A lot of times that I've been to parties in my area (Gaian Mind) the first Dj really doesn't have many listeners compared to the second and third.

Of course, the first slot usually ends at 10, so most people aren't even there at that point.           www.dants.net

I guess it needs to be different depending on the circumstances indoor club or outdoor nature party.

My personal preference for an outdoor party would be start with dark progressive ... switch to night music ....forest style at the peak hours of the night... twilight set 4 am to 5 30 am then switch to powerful morning music after which some suomi then to non cheesy high tech full on and then end the party with an ambient set.           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"

the party that i'm throwing this upcoming week is starting with deep progpsy, going into Nu-Goa, the standard psy (if there is such a thing), and i'm closing up with dark/tech/deep.
hoping to go from about 130 to about 155ish

Well the party that I've lined up has EgBot & Lauryn finishing up a night started by me, and sandwiching an Enertopia set. So, my usual style would kind of overlap with Emiliano's, but I'm going to spin a lower BPM full on set. Would you say that's too much full on? I feel like the tracks that I'll play are a little more playful and zany as opposed to the powerful, crunching tracks that Enertopia will play.           www.dants.net

its an emotional thing, let all thoughts go and be intuitive. feel the room and atmosphere and just play with it. very nice ideas will come to your mind. its a bit like meditation, you need to release anything not important and watch out for a "stream" or "wave". as soon as you catched it, you gonna take that ride and keep the involvement. just try to feel, follow your feelings. so the dancefloor is able to feel too, this is superbly better compared to making cognitive driven decisions. music is about feeling.
sorry sounds a bit esoteric, but this is what you and the people want. an experience outside of the usual world with all those informations, technology and dry words. look out for the feel, and everything will follow the flow. its there, touch it, stay with it. this is in explosive experience on the right time, with the right people. just have fun!

oh and, you have the controll. take your time with it. less is more. build it up from nowhere and take your time you get it. its easier to get the "right wave" when starting a bit more slowlier and more layed back. pushing up is easier as pulling down. dont be overdriven. make people getting hot for the moment you decide to let explode, what you have built up carefully and slowly.

Brilliant. I like it sir. Turns out the sound was messed up until an hour and 15 into my set, so I only had 45 minutes to work with.           www.dants.net

I can give you an example of one of the main weekly events here. You can always adjust the times to end at 2.

9 - 11: Progressive into a bit more than progressive full-on (U-Recken, Headroom, Zen Mechanics etc)

11 - 1: Full-on.

1 - 2: Live act.

2 - 4: Twilight full-on/dark psy
