Orion (Jean Borelli) is born and raised in Denmark and is one of the trance pioneers plus one of my favorite producers ever with his unique deep atmospheric morning style and solid production quality.
I waited for this release for a long time now and i was very happy when Jean handed me a copy of his bright new album released on Solstice Music.

Tracklist

01.Orion-Horizon
02.Orion-Zig Zag
03.Orion-Timeless Devotion
04.Orion-Sleepwalking
05.Orion-Viva Bahamas
06.Orion-Fast Lane
07.Orion-Body Baloons (Remix)
08.Orion-Dig It
09.Orion Featuring Raja Ram-Ocean Of Colours

Review

01)Straight from the beginning we can see that this is a very serious album.Horizon is an atmospheric tune like most of Orion's tracks.Great groovy rythm, great bass line and superb backround sounds and fx.Very nice track to begin an album with, one of the best tunes of the album.

02)Zig Zag is a faster track than Horizon but i think that it could be much better.Nice rythm in it but nothing else special.Preety average track i guess.

03)Next we have a really nice full on tune.Good rythm changes throughout the track, nice vocal samples in the middle and superb backround sounds and fx as usual.Interesting track indeed.

04)Sleepwalking is a great track, powerfull and melodic at the same time with great vocal samples on the backround plus some amazing percussions. This one will make you dance for sure people,a great dancefloor hit!

05)Despite its funny name Viva Bahamas is a serious track. This one is a typical Orion tune that has some nice strong percussion loops and some nice melodies in the end.Average one.

06)Fast Lane is again an average tune, nice rythm and some nice backround sounds and melodies. Its not good but its not bad, just give it a listen.

07)The remix of Body Baloons is an interesting powerfull track. The track has a good continuous flow (like most of Jean's work) and many sound fx.I havent heard the original but this is a good one.

08)Dig It is the most different track of all in this album and one of the best of the cd at the same time.Great melodies throughout the whole track and superb rythm, deep atmospheric psychedelic trance at its best.Highly recommended!

09)Last but not least we have an interesting collaboration of Orion with the well known founder of TIP World Raja Ram who starts this tune playing his silver flute. What we have here is a superb downtempo tune ideal for ending this album.Great guitar like sounds and vocal samples both fine combined giving us an amazing result. Those that like Sphongle will love this one for sure.

Artificial Frequencies is exactly what i was waiting from Orion,a fine mixture of psychedelic full on with progressive trance elements nicely filled with great backround sounds and fx.Jean has his own style indeed and thats not very easy to find in our days, sometimes though this style becomes a little boring and repetitive.I couldnt find even one bad track in this cd but some of the tracks like Zig Zag and Fast Lane are very average and really lack of innovative ideas.I recommend this cd to everyone out there not just because Orion is one of the greatest artists ever in the scene but because also this album is a real listening pleasure in the morning time,i listened to all the tracks many times before posting this review,do the same cause every track is filled with so many sounds that its not easy to 'catch' them from the first time. You might get bored of a couple of tracks after some time but the whole cd is really good and has a superb flow.

My favorites are 1,3,4(!),7,8(!) and 9(!).

Overall Rating 7.5/10           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

FANTASTIC album! Trippy, groovy, varied, dark and light at the same time. I have always enjoyed music by Jean Borelli. The voice samples in the last track (the chilled one) is taken from the animation movie Waking Life, which is a cool movie about lucid dreaming. Way to go Orion!

Orion is no stranger to the psychedelic world with past releases already featured on such notable labels as Phantasm, Symbiosis and TIP World. Listening to Artificial Frequencies one is immediately struck by the depth of the psychedelic structures and sounds that are carved out. From start to finish the listeners attention is held through the intricate and hypnotic layering of the many rhythms and melodies. When it comes to psychedelic trance there are many lessons that can be learnt from task masters like Orion. Artificial Frequencies is an incredibly solid release through who’s portals exudes an intense psychedelic power           if the truth can be told so as to be understood it will be believed

My friend Antic provided a nice review of this fantastic album on another forum. I believe that he wouldn't mind me posting it here.

ORION - ARTIFICIAL FREQUENCIES
Solstice Records

1. Horizon
2. Zig Zag
3. Timeless Devotion
4. Sleepwalking
5. Viva Bahamas
6. Fast Lane
7. Body Ballons rmx
8. Dig it
9. Ocean of colours (feat. Raja Ram)

I finally got it few days ago and initially I was truly dissapointed. When compared with Metamorpheus it had less melodies, tracks seemed to be more full-on (he collaborated with Alien Project lately...) and shorter. Just after some 5-6 listenings I started to discover things.

There are melodies, but they are not so explicit like with other artists. To hear the melody you must listen to all the elements - beats, snares, hihats, bass, effects and pads/strings. Then it all seems to create one huge and very psychedelic melodic patterns! He overuses - in good way - all of the known squelches and bleeps, so it's very acidy too, but in non-303 way, similar to what Cosmosis/Mumbo Jumbo is doing lately. Also incredible is the use of pads/strings - they're almost everywhere, sometimes as the background, sometimes as the foreground, but always in the right place. The other thing worth noting are bases: at first they sound like all power-bases in gms/ap/astrix clones, but they're more funky, groovy and melodic (!) than ever! And what a great job he does with drums!!! He's fuckin genius with creating very intricate break-beat loops that perfectly fit into psytrance. There's lots of little congas / snares / strange hihats everywhere. The production is also very clear and dynamic, so on a good soundsystem this shulod sound awesome! Oh, and the track with Raja Ram is brilliant too, a little bit similar to Cosmosis' Skankadelic.

What is very important he's saound is very unique, I mean I couldn't hear any of samples so much overused by other full-on artists (sometimes I think there is a CD called full-on samples which is in every store in Israel .

After all I'm very glad I bought it. It's definitely one of the best, if not the best artist album of the year. It seems to me that it is the right direction for full-on sound: get away from in-yer-face-obvious melodies and get into more psychedelic layering. 10/10

that album is really good and those 2 guys really do good music . it is simply amazing to see the level of quality of their music compare to what is around ... for sure one of the best album of the year . maybe not the more punchy for the dance floor ( even if for me it would be a pleasure to dance on it ) but the best work i heard since some times .
