He should wait with dj'ing to he has got more music! There are other artists than those 3 in this world you know. If this is a "problem", It just shows how little he knows about chill out music... So why is this guy supposed to play at the Omni festival?

I think he should play these tracks ...
The artists should be pleased to hear that a dj is playing their tracks ... in my opinion

Yes PKS, u're a bit rude here..

Youth and the likes will for sure have fresh tunes to play (especially him with the In Dub 2 due to be released in june) ... So dajay, your friend shouldn't worry so much..

PKS you are may be feeling a little bit jealous because your name it`s not there???? ,just kidding but I think that you should be a little bit more careful with your expressions, you actually offended me (not really )
And Jay the only thing I said was that I`m not gonna play any L.S.D tune because it`s already quite a lot of this sound not because I don`t have choices.(If you are talking about me )
But still everybody who knows me know what`s my favorite label, but ....
No problem the chill-out world is quite bigger that only L.S.D. tunes.

yep good luck justin.
on the issue, in an interview I read, I guess it was melicia, he said that if the dj infront of him played his tracks(one which he had for his live set) he would get pissed.
I think he should ask the people, whose songs he will play, that is lined up for the same fest. I'm sure they wont mind but, still then everyone would be happy I guess, with no concerns.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

When an artist, or even a label DJ, is playing somewhere, it is customary not to play that particular Artist/Label's music. why? because if you do, then what will they have to uniquely offer? sure, most artists/djs have new, unreleased music with them, but when I'm booked to play as Com.pact label DJ, I love playing many released tunes to promote the label's sound, and I admit that it will be a bit impolite for someone to play the same music (not to mention ilegal, even if the CD is paid for). Please dont get me wrong - its not about the ego; The best solution is indeed to ask the artist/DJ if this or that track is ok to be played, most chances are that any 'older' material is free for playing, but its better to ask and not create a 'double' (its very hard to remove a track from a live set...).

Is this festival the one you contacted me about, Justin?

cheers,

I have thought about that. It seems like every dj in the entire world break that rule (by playing a cd they have bought...). I guess we would't have any interesting dj's if they all followed that rule... I mean, if a dj only plays music from one label (to not break the rule), all his/her dj sets would probably sound very much the same... Or else the dj has to receive pretty many promos... But this is getting very off topic...           CHILL TRIBE

Thanks for all the support buddies but I would like to think that is not really necessary.Don`t get me wrong it`s so kind but...If they call me is basically because they know what I can do behind the decks,I think.
About the music selection is all about common sense and I don`t want to play any dubby tunes basically because almost every single dj in the Omni play`s dubby beats(wich is fantastic!!!) so that`s the thing I would like to sound different.
About the legal&polite situation I have to say, again, that is all about common sense.
You`re not gonna play all the unr. tracks from l.s.d. that you have from this or that artist If the guy is waiting for play, are you???
But the legal point is kind of ridiculous to think about....what we should do send a letter to the label and ask them if we can play the cd that we just buy???
Any way,bye...

well, i reckon - play what you want when you want as long as the tunes fit into a journey that you are creating. try and be unsual and suprising. Youth ain`t going to mind if you play his tunes, for sure... but if you play the whole cd, then maybe thats a little uncool, but i don`t think anyone would do that ! its great to hear your tunes being played by other dj`s. Its good to hear them when your not playing them !!! I reckon you just need to do some truffle hunting... theres a lot of music that is amazing and it isn`t psy-chill !!!!

... ok, there are some of the best chillout and dub artists there, showing the entire world how to do it right. Maybe you should teach them how to do it totally wrong!

A friend of mine once defined Aphex Twin's music as "you've heard it all, so let's fuck it up". Some intense glitch music, drill'n'bass clicky beats and technoid chill is the way to go IMO, and the psytrance crowd usually doesn't even know the classics of this style (at least 80% of the psytrance crowd have never heard a track by Autechre, let alone less famous acts like Lackluster or Machine Drum and even less of eccentric nutters like Venetian Snares).

You want to surprise people? Check out stuff by Warp (the most famous IDM label), Merck (the funkiest IDM label), Planet-Mu (one for all the crazies), Kompakt (german uberminimal techno), Leaf (for the more melodic side), Mille Plateaux (things mainstream electronica missed out on), Clear (neo-electro and really original electronica).... and I nearly forgot Thrill Jockey (just wicked stuff).

There are soooooo many labels out there that have music that's original and diverse, instead of just the logical evolution of Brian Eno like most of the standardized chill-out acts. Hope I've been of some help.          http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222
