Yeah Pisces1979 is absolutely right, + the scene took a big hit after 9/11... No one wants to stay in this city, and it’s hard to get visa to get in ... But never the less, my opinion that the scene in New York is growing, at least comparing to last summer, this time there is a lot of parties

Lots of interesting responses here.

I definately agree with the fact that a large scene is not equal to a good scene.
Lots of people at a party by no means make it a good party, it might actually become a lousy party if you are stuck together like sardines in a can.

@Pisces1979

I like your response in particular - Lots of facts there, I can see how those things will definately affect how many of especially the not so dedicated trancers will want to attend psytrance events.

Pricing here in Denmark is perhaps also a bit high

Admittance - 25USD
Beer - 7USD
Rent - 900USD (where you live)

The above 3 prices are pretty much average here in the bigger towns.

We also need bouncers checking ID... and most clubs wouldnt touch anything like electronic music due to mainly too few people going or drugs..
Too many drugs in their establishment and the police might raid it and take away their permit for "dance & alcohol till 2, 5 or 8 o´clock in the morning).

----------------

Setting aside the troubles you have in new york, Im happy for you that you do have an efficient core of people keeping the spirit alive by creating something for each other.

It sounds better to me that you can do 200 people parties with the right vibe and the right people instead of doing 1000+ people parties where most are there primarily to sniff coke, get drunk, get laid or those kind of activities.

I must say it makes me a bit sad to read about the Psytrance Parties situation in NYC. It was very different when I was living there (99-2000).
at least I still have all these great memories...
hope things will be better soon.

also NYC isnt exactly the most 'psychedlic' city in the world... so yes, those who are in the scene are die hard about it and it gives it a good energy as surrender said.... but in terms of the scene growing... that is a slow process... i think because in a place like NYC you dont really have people turning into psy... people who already like psy tune into the scene in NYC.
Also i think there are actually many people in NYC who like psy, but while in NYC they dont tune in because they are focusing on the less psychedelic parts of their life.
my experiences in the NYC trance scene was quite a family like experience.           www.facebook.com/DjJanux

on the other hand we hardly have anyone that's not into trance at the parties..... so depends how one views the situation.

you could even say that the energy is always high due to that fact and the vibe is true.
is bigger always better? i dont think so - certainly not in this case..... take for example all of the commercialistic problems everyone else is having in the world... they do not even apply here, is that maybe a blessing in disguise?

Very true, very well stated, BIGGER is not always better, I prefer parties with 50 people, if they have the right spirit… I think Canada and the Stats have some fabulous parties because the energy levels are as they should be at a Psy-party. In Denmark we have lots of parties with lots of people, but they are usually awful…           "Love is a way of life"

I am not sure why is it so small. Proabably becasue all the money are in different type of music, and there is no interest for anyone to sponsor anything new. And for the better! I love the scene here the way it is, and don't want it to become commercial.

check the North American section.

I think they have Rinkadink and Eskimo in a couple of weeks, Ninja this weekend, and a festival outdoors on a lake with Penta, Polaris, CPU, and Mekkanikka at the end of August.           ..it's just another party..

there are very diverse tastes here everything from the housiest smooth progressive on through to the most twisted psychedelia and back again many times at the same party. at gaian mind(a beautiful festival in pennsylvania. . .very close to philadelphia and nyc. . . we heard deviant species jaia antix edouardo and many local djs showcasing all styles.

being here ocasionally since 1998 and currently, to the question why the scene is not big Pisces gave all factors, to the question what happens in reality - indeed not too big, regenerated at easy rate community, but with strong vibe, very international - like it supposed to be in N Y, I would say russians push the most into evolving the scene,at this moment.. terms like nature party is not out of dictionary, its just called here in different maner and occures not too often but always on very high energies !
I accepted that majority of NYkers will not catch psytrance in their lifetime- the fact is that the city is been ruled by guidlines not exactly compatible with trance culture
