is it just me, or are conventional raves sort of waning away while psytrance parties are becomming more everpresent? there's a whole shit load of events listed in this forum. it could just be that i didn't really pay much attention to psy culture until about a year ago, but it really seems to be growing. what do u guys think?

i agree with u that its growing, but its a drop in the ocean of electronica in this country. i dont want to get into whether that's good or bad since it depends on what youre looking for, but thats the scenario....           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Yeah, it's definitely taking off but I think alot of the stuff you're hearing about now is just these different groups finally becoming blips on the radar which, once again, could be a good or bad thing. I guess it just depends on whose radar.

Well, I havnt seen psytrance in america grow for myself, but it does seem that it growing at a faster rate now (based on the threads on thr IsraTrance forums). Once the scene reaches me, I can have a better opinion on the subject. Until then, I'm forced to be a bedroom trancer.

...that last part sounded a little bit more kinky than i wanted it to.

Its 100% grown in the years I have been listening to it. In 1998 Toronto maybe 2 psy trance parties went down. Now its every month some times twice. There is also a weekly night. Our parties (BLA) have gotten and are getting up to 600 people which is quite a nice size.

Also in this area of the continent there are alot of festivals happening betweenToronto/Montreal/NewYork this year there was probably 10 or more festivals all with international headliners with the Eclipse getting close to 2000 people.

So its definately on the move.

dont forget about Vaporize as well. Another San Francisco based comp. That for the past two months has been psy shops number 5 best seller. Thats quite a feat for unknown american lable with mostly us artists on it.
As for scene growth. It certainly does seem to be growning. With events poping up in places like Arkansas, and Iowa, new people are getting introduced to the music at the all time.
I have also noticed a trend where there seem to be alot of psy trance rooms showing up at standard raves as well. Some people may find that bad for the scene but if its going to grow and sustain itself, new faces and energy need to be introduced to it. In Nor cal there seems to be two diferent schools of psy trance forming.
The traditionalists, which most of us are and is pretty self explanatory. Then there seems to be a popular trend right now of hard house,NRG rave djs that are all suddenly spinning psy at there parties. Good or bad i cant comment on that one, but the music is deffinatey growing and getting more attention thats for sure

the truffle records comp of southern california artists "solar flares" is doing well, perhaps california will become recognized as a prime source for psytrance. it seems to me like the scene here is growing. I hope it lasts.

no psyan, that not quite right. My post above is about Nor Cal. The psy only parties are better, from a purist\ bettter production value standpoint.
But there are just as many non-psy events with psy at them now, with the psy being played by non-psy djs

especially up by Sacramento

I can personally say that Ive seen about 4 times the amount of visiting acts in North America in the past 2 years than Iv'e seen from 98-2002. I've seen promoters pop up all over the place, and I've seen the # of people supporting the scene here greatly increase. All of you people who live here keep it up and show your thanks to those who are making it happen...also NEVER GIVE UP ON ROCKING!!!!!

I don't know so much that it's grown more than it's being advertised more and more. A year ago the only psytrance I knew about was a small enclave in Arizona, and they didn't do much more than a house party every now and again and yearly campout. Once I started looking, I noticed psytrance popping up all over the place, and in unexpected places (I think someone mentioned Arkansas and Iowa). As a spectator/participant, I think it's great. I just hope it psytrance doesn't turn into the next "commercial techno" scene.           "Every generation needs a new revolution." ~Thomas Jefferson
