I haven't heard the Tempest live in action, but apparently its supposed to sound great, what with the analog side of it and everything.

I don't think you compare it to Maschine tho, as Maschine is not a synthesiser and you can't do all the stuff you can do on the Maschine, with the Tempest.

And the Tempest costs like 4 times as much as the Maschine.

Peace out.

i use/like a lot fxpansion geist its a really good software for drums, reason why i m not sure about maschine cause i will probably end up using it as a controller for geist.. it could be great but a bit expensive. DH you should give a try to geist or check youtube videos, it s very deep and can really enhance the creativity and logic workflow for making beats.

Well the whole idea behind Maschine is the pads and the fast slicing of beats and mostly the live aspect of it....but as far as the studio is concerned, I have Apple Loops...and I have a MIDI controller, I could just stop lusting over stuff I can work my way around with my existing gear...It is a luxury really, only if I find very cheap on ebay, I will jump on it.
Got more important things to get first.

Peace out.

Main nogos for me are:

*you cant sample from an arbitrarytrack of the host DAW.
*To limited Envelopes
*ridiculous filter section
... I am waiting for Maschine II or the Akai MPC renaissance

Reminder... even the ancient Roland MV8000 is way more powefull than Machine or any other "creative" software sampler when it comes to creative on the fly sampling!

?
You can record audio into it and drop audio into it. Unless you mean something else?

thats a unfair comparison... If you use a hardware sampler you obviously work in a hardware only environment.
Why drag if u can record everything is gonig on anywhere with just one press of a button and can instantly play it ....?

The currently only solution (imo) is to use Geist(sluggish , microscopic small userinterface ) or
Devine Machine OSR2 (RIP) + another Sampler ? Battery ?

But the drag and drop from one app to another after dragging the windows in place is a workflow killer compared to the MV which does it without drag ;-)

Try it ...if u get a chance

I don't see the problem tho, you can do both. It's like a hardware sampler with audio inputs to record any source and also saves and loads samples from and to your hard drive.

Any source in DAW host mode ? are you sure, last time i check it it was not possible.
You can't e.g sample from the master-out of the daw, you would have to insert one instance of machine into the master and sample with it, but than you cant trigger it .

Is it meanwhile possible to send audio to Maschine via sidechain ?

How about sampling from the same soundcard as the DAW uses is that possible ?

eG DAW uses sound card i/o1 and maschine uses i/o2?

In that case we could simply use a loop back cable to sample with machine

Second point are the filters, there was only one 12 db lpf when i check it

Any experiences are welcome

One (probably noobish) question:
if u have something like the maczhine or the mpc and other harware synths...is there a way of hooking them up and syncing tempo between them or something like that? So if you turn on the arp on your synth its on the beat with the drum machine?           My first track:

yeah, what you do is you have an external device that sends information to whatever you want to keep in time - there are a couple of different ways to do it.

Personally I use midi time code and sync wirelessly with an ad hoc network.

Works great with MidiOX and rtpMIDI on windows.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

I would imagine that sampling from your DAW is simply a matter of routing the DAW's output to the soundcard output that is going into the Maschine's audio input. I have not used the thing so I am not 100% sure about that, nor do I know what it possible with it. Its just the old fashioned way I used to record audio from my DAW into my old AKAI S1100, assign the sample to a keygroup, save the patch and then use in tracks.

Peace out.

>Maschine's audio input
Machine do not have a Audio input , it just use the Spoundcard of the Computer.

FXPansion Geist is imo more advanced when it comes to sampling and dealing with one shots.
Its only weakness is that it can handle multisample keyzones so that you cal play one engine as instrument. Currently you can olny play one layer (4sounds) across one octave.

I stand corrected, I thought that it did.

Now I am also interested to see how/if you can sample your DAW's output into the Maschine, without using cables and routing your soundcard's output into the soundcard's inputs that Maschine uses to record.

Have you tried Geist ? It has a dedicated insert which acts as recording source           http://facebook.com/ansolas
