if he dont know much, the virus is a dream synth to program and learn the basics of synthesis.

That's true as well...In all honesty I think the Virus B is much better in terms of bang for buck. I'd get that if I absolutely wanted a hardware synth and save lots of cash for monitors and/or acoustic treatment.

Peace out.

Having used both the TI and Vsynth..

First the v-synth is more of a sampler, mangler , it has an included V.A synth but its not its strongest point, it has FM but that too isnt great. However It does offer alot of modulation (envelopes, Lfos) , realtime control with the timetrip pad etc. + everything can be edited via the Touch Screen , + tons of usable effects. + it got the tb303 filter which is very nice.

Virus Ti series is an all round synth engine, featuring alot of synthesis type oscillators from formant, granular to traditional. It is the VA synth to go for today with the total integration and the effects , some of them are really nice , others are geared towards Guitar players etc...

To sum it up i sold the Virus ti .. At first yes it sounded very good , but later i realized that the Filters are kinda plasticky, the ongoing OS upgrades made me think about how they were just adding features to it like a Computer software installation, i got bored of that polished sound. But if i were a novice and wanted to buy a synth and learn synthesis this would be the ideal choice with the way things are layed out in the Virus software.

The Vsynth remains simply cuz im a Sampling junkie + it only gets as good as what u put in it, basses ,drums etc. I have made otherworldly sounds on this machine i never herd in my life before. It is one of my best investments and the last best synth from Roland for me

Well shalom, Im a noob too and also had some dilemmas recently about what gear should I invest in because I also wanted desperately a hardware synth to play.
I cant advice you since im a noob but I ll tell you what I did.

I took “everything” it was needed first for a decent home studio and just saved 500 euro to get an evolver to play with.
so even if I already have all basic gear needed (pc, soundcard, monitors, midi controller and enough for a start software synths and plugins …working on treatment now) I can tell you that i could have spent even the 500 euro to more important things.
But I wanted a real toy so I took it and im glad for that.

Im not telling you to buy an evolver instead of a virus but to spend your money in gear that is truly needed and if it is so important to you you can save some less money for a cheaper hardware synth to play with. I think there are some good options.

I havent work with ti but with ti2 since my school had it and I have to admit that it is going a LOT deeper than I did and can go but I can make a lot of its sounds also with the evolver since polyphony is not a matter.
Trilian that is also being mentioned have samples from all the legend synths so you can make all the basses needed and a lot of leads

(any pro could correct me on those being said)

Sorry for the offtopic gear I mention and im not telling you to buy an evolver, trilian or whatever instead of what you have already in mind and this wasnąt my matter but I think if you search some more before buy anything, you ll find a lot of better options and combinations for a start to be satisfied.
I probably didnąt help but that was my recent experience I had with same/close dilemmas.

Hey man, I know everyone is thinking logically. But I think you should get something that makes you want to make music. If you know that a hardware synth will want/force you to make music. Then do it. It's about what you want and what will gelp you make music.

alright ,

to reply precisely to your original question ;

i got both the Virus Ti and the V-synth XT(can t tell about GT)

if you really want to get hardware i would highly recommend you to get the Ti .
you can use up to 16 presets at same time ,have 3 audio outputs and midi going trought the usb !!!!

you can also make good bassline out of it (what i used to do when i bought it ),but as mention above ,not the best way to make a good psy bass .

i must say ,before i bought my Virus i had the same beliefs you re having now ....but (i bought it 3 or 4 years ago ) ,you should think twice for the price you could get so much more usefull gear to make good music ,and you need so few to make psy basses (would recommend Spectrasonics also).

ok for the Vsynth ,i like those synth filters a lot ,compare to the Virus .
but it s said to be multitmbral and it s not true ;basically you can use only one preset at the time .

the sampling possibilities are great too ,so for the vocal designer (don't know if it's part of the gt ).
i will never think about making my bassline with it .... but i guess you could .

also i have a Nord lead2 and i've also tried to make basslines with it .yet the best results i got so far were with softs .

you should also read carefully all infos about making kick drums and basses in this forum .
the mother of all psy kicks ,and same for the bass .
you ll find out that actually nobody use hardware synth to create psy basses .

hope it helps .

both are serious synth of course .

give me something with tubes a vari mu like the phoenix or maybe a peq like the retro 2a3 + sylenth dcam or zebra or ace or largo or...for that money, you can buy great euphonic gears for 4000$ , just runing the signal into them you will have a big smile on your face !
