got it a few days ago, yes this thing is indeed awesome, sure it has a little bit of noise at some points depending on how you tweak it, but if you blast both osc's through the screaming filters i dont think you'll notice ^^

the sounds have made me laugh out loud many times allready, looking forward to explore more of what it can do           http://soundcloud.com/korvador

sample of something I did today with the ms20 as a source...fairly heavily processed with ableton            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

sounds nutz! btw what exactly do you mean by heavily processed with ableton ? chopped/rearrange, effect chain or both?

both...I took a 8 bar sample from the MS20, sliced it to MIDI, dropped the sustain/decay on the samples, added a random device to randomize which midi notes were being played

Then transposed all the samples down 12 semitones, then grouped and duplicated that whole instrument and dropped the duplicate down another 12 semitones, then put a delay and glitch2 after that.

then frozen/flattened that, stretched x2 a couple times, then put it on texture mode and dropped an ableton vocoder on there and I put unlinked automation envelopes on near all the settings in the vocoder and modulated the flux/grain size of the texture algorithm in ableton

truth be told I probably could have done this with non-ms20 audio and had it come out pretty close to what I got.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

that's some real creative stuff, guess this is why most digital-only producers don't waste their time dealing with creating perfect analog sound strains.

Asked because I found the sounds really warm in the low end and fat as compared to most ms-20 samples posted till now but guessing now that came from dropping it so many semitones.

would make a nice intro to a psytrance track btw

sorry i didn't realise these were already in the manual

either way, hell of a time with this thing, got lots of complaints but the character and process makes up for it. first hardware with patching for me, it's like nothing else before, even if it's built cheap.

Mmmmm experimentation of the day...fun with MS-20 External Signal Processing unit and drum loops.

Have a drum loop coming from Stylus RMX (with an ultra chorus on one of the FX slots) through my laptops sound card fed into the ESP of the MS-20 (which is itself fed into the MF-102 ring mod unit) which is going into my desktop's ableton for some lovely reverb and a bit of grain delay.

will, can you help me out on the noise issue?

i played the same ms-20 mini in the store yesterday as i did when i brought up the noise issue months ago. i noticed that it's actual back ground noise that's still there when every knob is fully turned counter clockwise (except main volume ofcourse). when eg2 is fully shut it's a short noise tap and transforms into a white noisish kind of swoosh when i crank up the eg's decay and sustain (everyhing else still turned off). the noise is hearable in the sound's back ground also when vcos are turned fully on if the filters cutoffs are below 10 o'clock.

does this phenomenon occur also with your ms-20 mini?

p.s. i used headphones via the headphones output. could you check both main out and headphones out just to be on the safe side?

Yup, same behavior on mine, my friend's, and the shop's unit.

If you try to find the noise, it's there. However, it is easily dealt with with a tiny bit of EQ or not having the Sustain of EG2 all the way up.

Haven't found myself in a situation yet where I thought "damn, this noise situation is making it impossible to do what I'm trying to do"            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe
