why firewire?
It's being dicarded by every manufacturer, if you buy a firewire card now, and its hard to find a laptop now with FW, imagine in 2 or 3 years when PCI slots in laptops become less common.
Try out a good USB interface, aka babyface, and see for yourself you dont need FW.
Also take in to account the well documented problem of the compatibility of FW interfaces with FW chips, you will need a texas instruments FW chip to work with out problems. And then not all motheboards handle quite well PCi FW cards. (specially if the power supply of the laptop isnt designed to handle extra power for a 6 pin FW).
Also, why you wanna change your interface?

well it's for my laptop...i only have a 1212 PCI in my desktop, which as you probably know is an internal card
I was reading today about the compatibilty issues with FW chips but as i can try it for two weeks and then exchange it for another one if i dont like it (or problems occur) i was going to give it a go...
The only issue with the Babyface is that it costs double the money and i cannot afford it right now and i have some urgency in solving the issue

I own a NI Audio Kontrol 1 and I'm very satisfied with it....hi-gain, clear sound...
I own a presonus firebox that I try to work in a macbook pro 2010 and have no success...many bugs and clicks and pops...so I go to USB and choice the NI audio kontrol....
Many gigs with it and any problems or issues...
