This is not a review per se because I'll leave that to someone with more knowledge of the genre but more a sneak preview of this soon to be released cd. I heard the compilation off Nate's laptop today and felt urged to post something about it.I gather much of it has been played allready at gigs but my views nevertheless. The name speaks for itself. These are tracks which seem to fall in the boundaries of the Protoculture
style although there are a couple of tracks which are too minimalist for my own liking.I cannot mention the track listing here because I only saw the sleeve design momentarily but imo the Triptych track Celtych is an unbelievably awesome piece of work. It might not sit well with those who don't like voices to diturb their states of mind at parties but as a purely listening track the McKennit Irish emotion has been reworked into something to be listened to over and over. It makes the hair stand on end. Then the Protoculture rmx of Nexus 6 is a total blast. I unfortunately have never heard the original so a comparative crit is impossible but perhaps to really appreciate the fullness of Nate's interpretation it is best not to have heard the original - excellent result (I saw elsewhere on a forum that some guys could'nt wait to hear this track, well I hope you will agree with me about this one). There is also a rmx of Magnetik from Refractions which was done for Glastonbury and this rocks along with typical Protoculture vibe, however I still prefer the original which I have off a live set before it was adjusted and refined for Refractions. Then there are a couple of tracks from Silver Surfers. The combination of the talents of Nate and Simon should take them pretty far into the future. Chemical Structures is a track full of things that prick your ears (even sounds that seem to be baby crocodiles - maybe the African roots shining through - naa I don't suppose so) but a very, very good track anyway. Sorry I can't list any more names from the compilation but watch out for this one. I think it is a must for any collection.

Well, it's being released on the 15th November.. It was planned to be released earlier but we had a few problems with the manufacture.

It's a massive compilation.. Watch out for it...

Full Tracklist (with mini-review):

1) Allaby and Aris - Uniformilarity --> Nice way to start the comp, morning style, good effects... Never heard of any of these artists before... Anyone can give more info?

2) Overlap - Time Express --> More dancefloor directed than the first one, envolving basslines and nice breaks... Sure I can dance to this one One of my favs here.

3) Tristan vs Protoculture - Pusher --> Protoculture style, melodic killer, beware of the break... Synthetic basslines...

4) Silver Surfers - Chemical Structures --> Nice track, very good sample (I want to know all about this substance too ), dancefloor friendly...

5) AMD - All We Have --> All we have here is a weird track, with thousand of effects, I like the bass and some noises... Good Production

6) Triptych - Celtych --> This one is the perfect tune! Possible the best tune this year (I'll count Psysex - Survival Kit as being from last year )... This track is amazing! For sure the best not only in the compilation, but also on the stores... Charles went to another level with this one... In one word: Magic .

7) Protoculture - Magnetic (Glastonbury 2004 Mix) --> The original was one of my favorites from Protoculture album, I guess this one is a little better (or just astonishing if you ask me). Morning, morning, morning....

8) Silicon Sound - Nexus 6 (Protoculture Rmx) --> Wow, very different from the original and the remix on Silicon Sound Album... I was expecting more of the same melodies of the original, but no... Protoculture style... Different samples, easy to dance to, and not as boring as the other ones (the others were great, but somehow repetitive... I love them anyway... They're my ex-girlfriend favorite psytracks )

9) Silver Surfers - Xen La --> This was a surprise for me... Very melodic with samples all the way through... Different, from other Silver Surfers I know. Nice to close the album, but not my favorite.

10) bonus download --> Yes, buy it and you can download a bonus track. Nice, isn't it?

IMO it's a very well compiled album... Lot's of tracks from Nate and that gem from Triptych...

Buy it.
Respect!
