A year after the release of his now classic debut album "Refractions", Protoculture (Nate Raubenheimer) returns with a collection of high-class daytime rollers, like no other.

Natural Selection gives us 9 exclusive tracks ('10' if you include the bonus download) carefully selected by Nate to create a truly Protoculture experience. Five of the tracks bear his mark, so Protoculture fans will be more then satisfied.

Now The review of the songs

1 - Allaby vs Aris - uniformilarity 135
Allaby delivers possibly the silkiest cut for 2004 , a litlle more progressive oriented track but with deep felling , perfect to start no words about that.

2 - Overlap - time express 143
New Russian find, Overlap, emerges in grand style with this morning melodic music that i think i´ve heard somewhere... No, just kidding! My idea was that the track is not original but very well produced! Very good indicaters for near future where left by Misha and Vyachaslav.

3 - Tristan vs Protoculture - pusher 144
First collaboration of Nate on this cd , but this time with the mighty Tristan slipping some gritty snarls, tweaks and tribal grooves between the much loved Protoculture melodies and atmosphere.
When i first heard this cd and when the first melodie of this track was puled out I imediatlly reconized it (Ah!!!..Neuro Pop!! how i miss u!!) Another thing that i liked was the pumping atmosphere created by this track.

4 - Siver Surfers - chemical structures 142
His new project Silver Surfers, a collaboration with Simon Malherbe, steps in epic proportion, showing us exactly why the Surfers are steadily making waves that are sure to find many new fans for the South African morning sound. Again the amazing melodies are present, creating deep felling with a litlle plastic atmosphere! First time i heard this was at Boom Festival, and Regan riped out the dancefloor with this 142 music!

5 - Amd - all we have - 145
From the UK there is new NANO signing AMD (Dick Trevor & Jules 'Aphid Moon') giving us all they have with clever tricks and spicy production galore. And the groove starts!! Very nice this new project, pumping and moving music, with great samples and one killer synthi melodie... the final bassline variation is smile maker

6 - Triptych - celtych 143
Now this is what i call originality! French wonder Triptych joins the party with his anthem "Celtych" and the groove continues . Amazing production here, violin synths with beautifull voice, no words to describe this work. Charles keep this line please!!!

7 - Silicon Sounds - Nexus 6 (Protoculture Remix) 142
MASTERPIECE. Please don´t ask me to discribe this one...

8 - Protoculture - magnetik (glastonbury 2004 live edit) 145
The first thing i liked was the bassline!! Then the melodies came and BOom! this is the monster live remix of his own 'Magnetic' (original version featured on NANOOCD004 'Refractions').

9 - Silver Surfers - Zen la 142
Right stay there! Another dance floor shredder! Deeping atmosphere to close the cd, NEW hypnotic melodies with grooving bassline variations, very good work, amazing track.

I liked all the tracks , so this cd goes with overall rate of 10/10

It is real nice to see so many good artists in one CD. Two tracks from Protoculture, Silicon Sound and my fellows countrymen Overlap are very strong composition... Defenitely I will get this one ASAP.           Spiritual guides are to practice and serve in ways that cultivate awareness, empathy, and wisdom.

Great tunes, was pleasantly surprised by the overlap track. Tryptichs Celtych finally released...the mastered version sounds so sweet!

Just tracks 7 and 8 are misprinted, swapped around on the cover, 8 is actually the silicon sound remix on my original, which Ive been waiting for for so long.

Cheers Nate and Nanoites!           Within this timeless gathering,
a shining light does dance,
lost from conscious memory,
but visible in trance!

I just LOVE that "Celtych" tune - excellent, intelligent track. Triptych is clearly one of the most underrated full on producers today, but hopefully this track will give him some well deserved exposure on dance floors worldwide.

Protocultures remix of Silicon Sounds best creation so far, "Nexus 6", and the rework of his own track "Magnetik" are also great examples of his skills to make perfect uplifting sunshine full on. (Am I the only one who noticed they are mixed up by the way?).

Overall another good compilation by the Nano records crew, who haven’t released a single bad compilation yet. Great job once again           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

Alright, i dont normally listen to full on music these days, but one thing is certain from this...

No matter what the music is categorized, good music is just simply good music!!

The Magnetic Rmx is amazing... It maybe the best work from protoculture, I hope we will be getting more morning bombs like this in the future!!           New Aqua Site

Yeah, as Taku pointed out, on the track list, 7 and 6 are listed backward...
I wish there have been some more hard-edged tracks, imo.
Tell me what you listen, and I'll tell you what you are.
