So I'm checking their website and see that Gaudi's remix EP is available for sale. Soon I realized there are only 2 remixes + 2 original tracks from "Bass, sweat ..." on this release. For $11.57. Ouch. But I love Gaudi's work - cd goes to the basket. I'm deciding to add another cd and proceeding to checkout. Another shock: $10 for shipping of 2 cds? 1 cd + 2 new tracks actually..... I give up. I know shipping from Canada to US is expensive. But is it more expensive than overseas shipping (Psyshop charged me $7.40 for 2 cds)?

I know those are small differences but I woke up in bad mood and this made my day even worse and I had to vent it out :/           http://www.chillumafia.com

Why not mail them with constructive critic after you calmed down? From what I heard they are nice people.           http://enjoys.it

I'm not mad

Just couldn't understand why release called "Remixes EP" contains 2 remixes and 2 originals from Gaudi's album (that I already own).

I guess I have to start buying digital files :/ (which I'm tring to avoid for as long as possible)           http://www.chillumafia.com

I wouldnt be suprised if CDs are reaching the last year (2008). Atleast a good thing would be less releases generally (on CD)...

Logistics are generally difficult so downloads will win in the end as soon as people get used to it and the systems get better and better... Lets see

less cd releases is what will happen for sure
i am ok with digital releases.
less transportation less energy consumed less tree destroyed
its more eco friendly imo

I doubt Native State will do many more CDs. Wav files are on Beatport for people that need that, otherwise you can purchase from Itunes, Emusic, etc.

CDs are unsustainable: plastic discs, in plastic cases.

I will do CDs for Somnia, but I only do a limited run of each one with recycled cases, signed and numbered.

Damn! That's depressing.
I just can't listen to downloads. It sits there on my hard drive never getting a chance.
CDs wont die, not when you see the 7 floor tower records in Shibuya opposite the 6 floor HMV & the hundreds of other record & CD shops scattered about the city. People like a physical product. Being purely digital is cold           Wait.....What?

so cd to digital, is just a better evolution....
imagine:
super quality music (96lhz/64bit/blablabla),
selled direct from the label to the listeners,
5:1 one multimedia shit, or what ever your mind can imagine, that realy amazing stuff!!!!!

i doo buy a lot into itune, is a good place for find music from everywhere in the world....

Ah yes, but comparing music retailing in Shibuya to the rest of the world is not really fair. Shibuya is the most commercial place I've ever been, and Japan in general tends to buy more CDs than everyone else.

All of the Towers in north america are closed. Record stores and distributors go out of business every day.

I do agree that the packaging sometimes is part of the art. Maybe we will make beautiful custom packaging and put flash cards with high quality audio inside...

I like digital download...but then I always burn the music on cd.

Digital internet distribution is not more eco friendly than physical cd distribution...they estimate that already today the electricity consumed by internet in US is nearly the 25% of the total energy production...and it's growing everyday.
where do you think is going to be stored all this music and videos we all constantly upload ?
inside huge storage hard disk farms...24/7/365 days on...
with cooling system running like crazy...hard disks break often when they run constantly, so they need constant replacment too...
it's more confortable, sure...but not more eco...it's only marketing strategy...they get us in the house now.
vynil is still there...and actually is even growing back stronger...
but it is bigger object, nicer bigger covers, and sounds warmer...and sometime you need to travel to get it (which is part of the joy).
printed cd is going to the grave...the blank ones will be around for few years more I reckon. (until they finish the Pioneers stocks)

Tower records in Japan has been bought out a while ago really,, hence is not part of the tower records group, but just keeping the same name, beside the fact they also signed up a deal with napster, and heavly invested in the digital download (shops almost halfed the cd stocks).
Cisco, another distributor who also owned many cd shops in Shibuya, just recently closed down the cd business.

Japan is just adjusting to the rest of the world .

Im lucky to receive many promos from labels and directly from artist I like. But that doesnt stop me buying a cd if I really like the music.

I do buy digitally sometimes, especially if I cant find the cd or in the case just few songs out of an album are good.

Maybe its just a fetish, but me liking having my cds lined up on the shelf, and I do actually like very much checking out artworks and reading the line notes.......
call me old skool,Im prefectly fine with the music business changing model, but an mp3 will never replace a cd as an e-book will never replace a real book in my agenda ^.^

peace n dub
