Some called it Goatrance some psytrance. All depending on where you come from in the World. We called it Techno/Trance ... then Goatrance and late 90's psytrance.

goa trance was not a really a very specific genre ehnce why it have been replaced by psychedelic trance term later .

plenty of reference on the net like this one :

August 1993 : the first Goa Trance compilation is released, on Youth's label : Project II Trance. It contained tracks by artists which would become key figures of the scene : Simon Posford (Hallucinogen (*)), Stephane Holweck (Total Eclipse (*)), Martin Freeland (Man With No Name (*))…
The same year, the first organized structure for Goa Trance parties came to life, once again in London, thanks to Chris Deckker, an Australian percussionist who had found inspiration on the shores of Goa : Return to the Source. He'd be soon joined in his enterprise by a famous DJ, Mark Allen, organizer of the Pagan Parties.
The expression "Goa Trance" appeared around 1994, before it was replaced in 1996 by " Psychedelic Trance ", the reference to Goa becoming a bit dowdy.

from me my memories it was around 97/98..when goa sound died and a more psychedelic crappy sound that never worked as well appeared hence why here most deserted the parties ,sales droped and the best days of this music were over , could be wrong but it s how i felt it back then

Even before this part of trance was called 'Goa', it was called Psychedelic.

@ Colin. Not in my part of the World. Psytrance came after the goa term. Before Goa came Trance/Techno.

Before the term 'Goa' was coined 1994 it was referred to as psychedelic, to distinguish it from regular Trance which was also already popular then. Stuff like Jam & Spoon's 'Follow Me'. Here's Phantasm's first-ever compilation from 1994, which also refers to it in this way.

Again it is a subject to where you originate from. I am sure it was refereed to as psychedelic in UK. But in Copenhagen the term psychedelic came after Goa around 1996-97.
As I wrote before. Prior to the term Goa (arrived around 1994 in Copenhagen with the first couple of compilations from UK) the music played at the raves here was refereed to as Trance and Techno. No matter if it was psychedelic or not

It's evident what the timeline is from the posts you've both made. Psychedelic trance arrived in Denmark in 1993, before the term Goa Trance was coined; this is the period Ploink remembers. Then when you and your other Copenhagen friends discovered it for yourselves later on, in 1994, it was beginning to become known as Goa Trance. This would fit with how I remember things from '93-'94.

So I was wrong and you can both be right, after all.

I was part of the scene from 1991 and know my story from Denmark and especially Copenhagen.

The genre or term "Goa" arrived at a party on a Boat in the harbour of Copenhagen just after the release of this release:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Digital-Alchemy/release/140091

Dino Psaras played together with MWNN at this party and this is where people in Copenhagen (way before the rest of the country) first got to know the term Goatrance.

Before that all our parties was called Trance (inspired by German trance) and Techno parties/raves.

So no the term psytrance did not arrive before 1996-97 in Denmark.

The Djs playing around (many from A record shop called Street Dance) 1993-1994 were mostly inspired by German trance and Techno.
Not much UK trance was present here at that time. Frequent DJs from abroad was Dj's such as Hell, Sven Vath etc. Ergo the psychedelic term was not present as these Djs played a very different style in 1993-1994.

The name "Psytrance" for sure was a later development than "Psychedelic Trance". Anway:

Maybe Ploink spent some time in the UK in '93 and brought the term back with him to Denmark before you became aware of it? Even though I was in there very early, lots happened in the UK scene before I found it, so maybe the same is true for you, hm?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I would love to know where Ploink was from 1991-1994 because I never met him and I was a big part of the danish scene at that time.

No matter how much you try Colin. I know what went down here. You dont
