I wonder what dancing people, artists and dj's think a dj should play :

1. the entire track solo ?
2. mix during too long pauses with another track,so the movement on the dancefloor doesn't collapse ?
3. mix more intensively,like techno, so you hardly recognize the tracks ?          ) ) ) > > > 3ö < < < ( ( (

i wonder what the result would be if a dj tried speed mixing psytrance... i really do... haven't ever heard it happen...

two tracks simultaniously neither... or just putting little pieces of one track in another... nor rewinds

maybe our techniques are getting slightly narrowminded           www.psytracks.com :: Brand new website for sharing your psytracks with the world. Get a free 250Mb Artist profile, Blog and events calender!

i always enjoy mixing for 2 minutes or more
and i mostly mix the next song on my tracklist twice
so if i'm really happy i make a mix with tracks that only play 1 minute without mixing.....gives a kind of freaky effect..it allows you to really create.
intensive mixing is THE way

depends on the style of music you play. with more minimal and prog stuff, long mixes are much easier, and sound a lot better. with full-on and busy dark psy, i wouldn't mix for long periods of time. each track tells a story, so let's hear it.

this topic doesn't belong here, anyway. check out

I vote for nr #2. That's the whole point with mixing. Intros, Outros and long pauses should never be heard.          Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

hummm...sometimes the pauses is what makes it being so powerfull when it finally comes in in my opinion....i like breaks in the dance floor quite a lot, is when ppl look more to each other and see the world around them, lol

I actually prefer to hear the whole tune...i get really frustrated when i hear a familiar tune and then the dj mixes to another track before putting the part i wanted to hear

but all of them are ok, as long as it is well achieved...

i agree with FluoSamsara, artists such as Absolum add serious dramatic effect with those long pauses and any mixing into that, simply destroys the whole atmosphere.

i wouldnt make a claim like that Goblim, its too generalizing.

mixing deeper into the track, that is, more then the "exit time" in full on, usually yields noisy and poor results... maybe ive been listening to the wrong dj's, although i dont think so.

Pixel&Domestic are a perfect example of mixing through long pauses, but they use those pauses to add a lot of energy. Dimitri DJs full-on and sometimes gets into insane techno looping/cutting techniques and it works very well.

In short, as long as it works, I don't care how it's done.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

I usually cut the first 1-2 minutes from the begining of a track when I mix. I try to play only the "cream of the crop" from each track. If the track stay good & doesn`t lose energy till the end, then I play the whole track           check out! www.soundclick.com/spasm

you have been listening to the wrong dj's if it usually yields to noisy and poor results.
noise means bad equalizing skills or that the dj accidentally pitch bends too much

I tend to like long and creative mixes, coming from a techno background. I appreciate that this can't always be done with a lot of the more melodic, goa-style stuff though. It's the results on the dancefloor that matter, ultimately.           "One nation under a groove".
