I have to agree with CN. I'm just your bog standard home listener who occasionally puts CD's together for a dance group (well, I used to anyway, when I could still attend) and I prefer unmixed albums. Sure there are a number of VA CD's that I love and happen to be mixed but quite frankly I want the whole track, as the artist presumably intended it to be heard. There are so many great pieces that I adore but that only exist within a mix. When I used to put my waves together (the dance thing again) I'd spend hours in Soundforge chopping/fading out the beginning and end of tracks so that they'd flow nicely into each other, rather than just stop dead at the end. I don't have so much of a problem with full albums by a single artist it has to be said.

But...it is the whole track...only the last 4/5 seconds are crossfaded, what's the problem with that???
I fail to see a problem

But it's the way these things are "blended" together, with no regard half the time for pitch , BPM, not wanting to slag off particular releases but I've known the last beat of a bar be missing, all kinds of crimes against sonics....there's a few labels that I just don't bother buying anything by. I started this thread out of frustration with some new buys, but it's obvious from the words of support that other people find this frustrating.
To the person who said chill out releases are for bedroom chillers - yeah bedroom chillers probally buy a CD every so often....I spend at least £40 a week on CD's.
To the person who whined "so we are all expected to have gaps between tunes", Dakini records always have gaps between the tunes and it's no big deal.
and to the person who surgested buying complete tracks direct from the label....in some cases that would be well cool, do you think they would sell them at CD release quality....I don't play copies ever just cos they sound rough.

cheers PKS, Floaty and Johnny M the people who live and love ambient music know where I'm coming from.
