Mixing with out headphones?

when i used to dj parties i would listen in the headphones to adjust the speed of the vinyl and cue the track, then do the mix without the headphones.

Yeah I believe that's one of the best ways to go: beat match with headphones (or just press the sync button) and mix the tracks without them.
But, if you are listening though monitors, then you'll really not be hearing what comes out to the front of the house either..

I think it depends on what monitors you have behind you.
I use both headphones for beat matching and just one for mixing.  |

if your mixing with software, you dont need headphones, thats how easy software mixing is....
