Def. no headphones for chillout/ambient, and also I find a lot of modern prog easy to mix with no headphones in Traktor. Forest & "dark" psy for sure I still use headphones as there're so many sounds and frequencies to play n' filter through to it make it sound like Goa Gil's train are of style           Cuntus Maximus.

Played at a doof without headphones because they had it set up with monitors and it was a NIGHTMARE.

With headphones my mixing becomes ultra tight, I can hear every sound without any interruption from outside noises.

I always mix without headphones cause what u hear in your headphones can be totaly different to outcome, cause it coming out complitely different kind of setup.
Like if you mix with headphones you are semi bling, you hear how its supposed to come out but you cant really be sure cause you dont hear the outcome

Always depends on how good the monitor set up is. Unfortunately, there are still partys where they think it's not important to give the DJ's a god damn pair of monitors. I prefer to mix without headphones, but as mentioned depends on the quality.           http://soundcloud.com/catweazle-psytrance-music

How can you mix without headphones???
Sure I know Traktor does the syncing for you, but usually it's not as tight as you wished.
It nearly always needs a little correction to get 2 kicks synced perfectly.

I rarely use headphones. Just to make sure the tracks go well, then headphones out.

Djones: If you can't get 2 psytrance kicks synced perfectly in Traktor then you need to learn how to beatgrid properly. I tightly do it with all my tracks and very rarely I need to adjust the phase manually.

Since I switched to Ableton I no longer use headphones.

Love it!

Also, I haven't yet worked out how to isolate the cue to it doesn't play out of the master.           ____________________________________

In order to cue through ableton you need to change the Cue output to something different from the Master output. So for instance by default the master and cue are both set to 1/2, but if you have a second output on your soundcard configured you should be able to change the Cue output to 3/4 and then your Solo buttons on your tracks turn into Cue buttons and the Cue will send that track to the secondary output.

I use headphones sparingly in my ableton sets, usually just to make sure I don't mix in the highs/mids of the incoming track too quickly or, if I've forgotten how a track starts, I turn off that track's master output, turn the cue on and listen to it through the headphones so I can prepare myself for the mix.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

^ Thanks willsanquil, I'll have another go at it. I think one of my issues was that I reassigned the Cue knob.

Cheers.

Now why would a computer dj need headphones? it makes no sense to need to look like a traditional dj, your using a computer to dj so no need to have headphones.
