Good mastering is for sure domestic & tim shuldt . for ido no need to think twice just listen to the stuff he is responsable for (astrix pixel and more from hommega) and tim shuldt made my friends album (guinea pigs) sound monster!!
hopefully simon polinsky too (making my album right now)

for chromatone's , out of 2 trax of mine he did and i heard (more on the way) i liked 1 alot and 1 was bad. might be the mix as well somehow, but thats my expirience so far.. as i said more should come soon (va digital drug , i guess he made it) so i can say more..
for kindzadza work (made 1 track of mine) i was disapointed .
soon i have 1 track mastered @ xenomorph studio , and 1 more with tim shuldt so i can give personal opinion.

for begginers who want their tracks fat and loud as cd for giving to friends or for put them on the net or for sending it to labels or to play that on party, i offer my humble service (i need practice) for free , if someone intrested , please pm me i think i can make it pritty nice , i have lot of expirience with my own stuff and some more friends           www.sattelbattle.com

I like the sound that Tim makes, I also like some by Son Kite. But ,more or less, when it comes to specific trance genres, the sound is the same from all engineers, it's something like "keeping the norm" or playing it safe.

Either way ,shit doesn't turn into sugar by magic.           Bring yourselves into the light

That's because we how this music could - and should - sound at its best. It's not a case of 'playing it safe' as much as making the final tweaks to the overall sound to make the music sound in real life the way it does in the head of the person who wrote it - which (with trance) is generally so that it sounds properly phat, crisp and clear on a big sound-system, which in turn means that the track has to have certain sonic properties.

I would also disagree that the sound is the same from all engineers - everyone who masters stuff does it in a slightly different way which gives slightly different results.

Tim Shuldt , Xenomorph , KDd and the Parvati guy are great            Nocturnal Wizardz Recs
Bhooteshwara Records
Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life,craving for more.

@Colin

Well, yes, I sound too generic some times and you're probably right. What I meant is that, since the producers usually use the same structure, in terms of bassline, bassdrums, sweeps, leads etc., the mastering engineer has to do more or less the same job. Since the producer wants to sound like, say X-dream, ticon or whatever, then that's what he'll do. The skills and the equipment differ ofcourse...

But I really wonder, even though I have some experience of my own, how much can a track benefit from mastering ? Can it be "transformed" and to what extent. I get the idea that most trance producers, at least the more educated ones, should be able to do mastering along with their composition, since this is music heavily dependent on sound engineering. Having said that, I've made some tracks that I really like "musically", but I had a nightmare with final mixdown. Could these tracks be given life, and to what extent ?           Bring yourselves into the light
