im still in Hamburg, suppose come back to Israel tonight, so i planed some shoping (not that i didnt till now, but last money, u know) but its quite rainy and cold here so i will just spend time writing u a review of Lovefiled festival 2003 that took place at Stade near Hamburg.
week after wonderful VooV Expirience festival and after some great days in Hamburg (Luneburg, Lubeck, Schwerin) we were droped by Kebab Kru to fields near Stade in de middle of de night, night before festival starts, a great time to arrive to. we found that festival sire is a small airport that was a refreshing thing indeed (for us, desert, deep forest searchers). there were 4 stages, 3 inside the party area and Tipi Town aka Chill Out stage in de middle of the camping area, that is a smart move. and there were a Main stage in the field (all kinds of music, mainly live perfomings) Trance stage (in the forest, surrounding by trees) and Tent (big tent with minimal house and techno music).
we spent a night a day after in preparations and mainly in waitin till food stalls will be open, since there were no food with us and no way get to that vilage near.
at 17.30 the festival been open and we got pizza and p´m`FM on the main stage opening and warm up the party, both (pizza and member of Deep Dive Corp) were tasty.
later Barbara Morgenstern showed a angry side of German underground, i didnt liked it. Moonbootica that quite famous in Hamburg area spined after and gave a very kool house set. all those things were at main stage since there the festival started. by that time Trance stage was allready open also so we moved to see Saafi Brothers live that was impressive, very slow but kicking techno. then we heard Martin Landsky from Pokerflat that was very nice. those 4 acts were a great opening for a great party, becoze one hour later Son Kite started their live act that was a usual and not surprizing amazing perfomation !! then after them a Talamasca was about presh play bottom but i was allready on the way to main stage again to hear Lemon 8 that i expected to be a fantastic set but my expectations were wrong and we got typical Holland dj playing cheezey music, not a Lemon 8 we know from great prgressive powerful remixes he do from time to time. it was a morning allready so i decided go and sleep a bit becoye i knew next two days there will be no chance for sleeping againg. by that time there was a killer tech-house party in Tent, where friends went but i was sleeeeep.
i woke up and step by step got to Trance stage to hear El Zisco playing quite nice set and then Space Safari came and changed my world in two hours, i didnt recognized any track from his set and it was realy fantastisch, slow and very deep and also very kicking and moving music. then we returned to main floor to hear Jazzanova and chill a bit, then again a trance floor and Feuerhake with nice set going from break beat to prog house then to his reguelar guitar trax. then mainfloor again and Deep Dive Corp Live, then trance floor again and Ticon live that wasnt good at all. it was a second night then, very cold i must say and Timo Maas that played then on main floor was exactly what u need in the cold night, very groovey tech-house set to move your legs with, one of the highlights for sure. then trance floor again and Planet Ben spining full on with killer dj skills (Astrix and so on, Sounds of War as some Swiss funy dude call Israely sound), u waste your time Ben. after him El Audio gave a live act that wasnt a best thing around for sure, too much cheap acid man, too much. then things turned be rose again, we got D-Nox with sunrise that allways a good thing i guess, then POTS live that was fantastik, realy surprized me, so groovey and intelligent trance. then Yaniv came and spined a nice set also, going from very slow to very kicking stuff, then Tobias and Daniel Sun gave us a taste of future, not so danceable but so nice music, flegmatic and melancholic prog house-trance. then it was a time for Haldolium live (it was allready a 24+ hours i wasnt sleep and party and i was sure nothing can move me now.. i was wrong) that was another strong highlight, their new stuff so sweet and realy deep, their older stuff been remixed and changed to be interesting in the show. by then they finished i felt realy too hallucinated and wasted so i had to go to get a shower and after its took me a quite long to get there i saw a colorful showers area with PA and dj spin killer music, so even there u couldnt stop dance.
i felt like a party is over for me, my legs realy fucked up and i wanted just eat something and spend rest of the time with friends, but on my way back to stages i saw that Franck Becker aka Space Safari just start to spin in Tent under name Funk-E, so i sat down top hear what is it about. well, in 5 minutes i danced again:) it was another school for music, slow funky and so danceable stuff been played there, i enjoyed it very much and felt like no better way to close the party, so i found myself sleep for 14 hours (sorry Raban m8, i didnt woke up), then get my 5 euros on garbage deposit and back to the Hamburg.

well, it was a wonderful party for sure, quite different from Voov for example, much less heavy drug junkies, much more cute faces, quite expensive, killer showers, not best location, killer killer killer music-sound-time-table.

Highlights - Son Kite, Space Safari and Funk E, Haldolium, Timo Maas, POTS.

p.s. - one sad thing from this year trip of mine, i didnt met any Israely that wasnt a drug dealer, hey, there is no other way to reach money u need for have fun and party ??

a Question - what is this Nirvana remix that everybody (d-nox, timo maas, feuerhake) plays ?? anybody ??

a Tip - i bring with me quite alot new music i bought in Hamburg, Luneburg and parties, so party org feel free to book me, fresh sounds promised.

a one more thing - Free Form seems will be back very soon with releases.          Believe your soul !

I had a great time at the party as well. Zombi seemed to get all the details of the festival, so I will just give my highlights.

We got there on Friday night after multiple train delays just in time to miss the Saafi Brothers. Oh well. We got to the floor in time for Son Kite's live set (my first time to see them)....needless to say, it was a brilliant set no less than I was expecting. The build from their more minimal stuff to the massive closing of the "Out of Range" remix and Vernon remix was excellent.

Talamasca was next with his a 1-hour (only!!!!) set. The switch from lush progressive trance to Cedric's style was a bit abrupt (the organizers should have put a build-up DJ in the middle), but the crowd found its groove by the end of the first track. Excellent set by Cedric. No huge surprises, but the crowd was definitely feelin' it. That was Cedric's first time to play in northern Germany, so he was unsure how the crowd would react....they dug it.

The next day, we caught El Zisco in the afternoon.....really great groovy progressive with touches of house. Great music, good mixing - we thoroughly enjoyed it. Space Safari followed and played a damn impressive DJ set. Each time I hear the guy DJ, he moves further up on my totem of DJs. During his set, we went to check out Jazzanova, but it appeared they were still setting up and we had to eat dinner, so we didn't stick around.

I heard the end of Feuerhake's set in the evening. Good stuff, but I wish I had heard more of the set. Fortunately for us, Deep Dive Corp's set was delayed by an hour or so (they were scheduled at the same time as Ticon's live set on a different stage), so I got to hear Ticon play. Nothing surprising, but good music all around. Deep Dive Corp played a nice set as well (what I heard of it), but the system was turned up too damn loud, so it sounded very distorted and bass-heavy. Bleh.

Next up was Infected Mushroom. I had never seen them live either, so I had no idea what to expect. The next 75 minutes was fucking brilliant. Whether or not it was live, I have no idea. However, the songs coming out of the speakers, while recognizable, were often heavily remixed, with new sounds, changed melodys, altered song structures....the works. When I hear a "live set" and hear something distinctly different from what I can buy on a CD, I am thoroughly happy. Infected blew me away in this regard.

After that set, I needed to rest for a bit (and warm up....it was friggin' cold!!!), so I took a break until the morning.....and the set by D-Nox. This guy had destroyed me at Voov, so I had very high expectations for his Lovefield set. All of them were met and surpassed easily. Somewhere between house and progressive, with enough funk & groove to feed a family of 5. I need to hear more of this guy. I couldn't pull my ass off the dancefloor for the duration of his 2-hour set (except to go grab the occasional Caipirhina or beer )

POTS played live afterwards and was an unexpected surprise. Good melancholy progressive. By then, I had to go check on my travelling mates, and unfortunately didn't make it back to the dancefloor for Yaniv (Mac&Cheese smuggled from the states is almost worth it ).

Overall, a great party. Probably musically better for me than Voov, although I found the crowd & security at times a bit more like a large commercial festival. But I am glad I went and will probably go again.

zombi dude, u forgot saying the party was........

DAMN SCHI-SE ! ! ! ;-)

the electronic arts concept is shure the clean and clever version of those vestivals, u get the whole idea just with cleaner toilet and realy working proper showers, also there is no way you get to hear shity music, everything was managed to give the maximum in searcing the boundries of electonic dance music, without putting borders of styles.

u get to hear people who do live which is alive cause the create it to be sth new and not cause they push the play butoon and shake their butty for the pc megamix..

we came cause we found so lot of names of artist that we buying their music, but then at least i, found so many talents goin in the techno stage and in the live stage, people who i listen to a year ago and never figure its a "band" in the old form of performing artists, just to name a few in no order:

codec & flexor, asci.disco, elsa XT feat. Dynamite Candy (that wass damn nasty tech-hop at early morning), D.digler, Barbara tucker (black woman singing house songs), CLIENT (andy fletcher of depeche mode playin yazoo song...) ,Space Safary, D-nox, P.O.T.S, moonbootica, Siggy pop and the very own Daniel sun & Tobias, u all gave a great show and Big time with all the tunes ! ! !

and the nirvana song its a white label by adam freeland.

damn. sounds like it was an amazing festival. Looks like the 3 of you had a great time.

Zombi, I was reading your review and I kept thinking that you must have been the one who chose the lineup or something.

I'm glad to see that Son Kite blew you guys away (big suprise there huh). That's exactly what I need to hear before I take off to see him in the desert of North California next month. Did they play any of their new stuff by any chance? (as if I needed anymore inspiration to buy that plane ticket)

Krelm my man, Mac&Cheez is the bomb indeed. I live off that shit here in school, I'm telling you. Good to see that you're living it up in Germany. Texaliens still have a very fond place in my memory.           Both teams played hard

This was indeed a blast! Lovely people and a real nice atmosphere..

Moonbootica totally rocked my friday night with the best dj set I heard this summer - it even topped Jeff Bennet's @ Fusion.. Electro n' house combo when it's best, for those of you who were there: "Dont you want somebody to luuuuuuuve!!"

Other highlights were D-Nox and POTS who made Sunday morning just about perfect... Deep Dive made my Saturday night as well while Marcus Carp vs. Rolling Thunder made a good ending to it all.

Unfortunately I missed both Space Safari's set due to sleep (read: crashing...) - heard it was real good too..

The mac & cheese situation here is pitiful. It is almost enough to make me go back to Bushland. Only one store carries it, and it costs 3€ for one box of Kraft!!!!! That shit is like 50 cents back in Austin. Oh, the humanity.

When the hell are you going to make your European journey? We have a couple extra bedrooms over here and need more victims....er....guests to keep our cats busy.

Son Kite will rock your ass. What I especially loved about their set at Lovefield is how it was programmed like a DJ set. Slow & minimal in the beginning...almost boring. But it gets ya grooving. Around 30 minutes in, they begin to kick it up a tad bit in intensity. Around 45 minutes or so, they teased us with a bit of melody, then back down into some intense tribal goodness. The last 30 minutes was pure melodic bliss as only Son Kite can pull off. The closing of the "Out of Range" remix into the "Wanderer" remix with Seb wailing it out on the violin was about as good as it gets on the dancefloor.

Some tracks I remember hearing....
Trimatic - Pooploop
Massive
Receive Part 1 & 2 (pretty sure I heard the melody twice)
Sunest Street
Vibrasphere - Newport (remix)
Cosma - Out of Range (remix)
Vernon - Wanderer (remix)

I am sure I am forgetting something...there were also several I didn't recognize.

Your money is well spent on that plane ticket to Cali.

BTW, did you ever meet Bill when you were living in Austin? He will be at that party as well.
