oh, wow... still resonating with the experience. feeling very satisfied. the obstacles that presented themselves (including the bands that ran over an hour late into Mindburger) only made the experience more interesting and the results more delicious. The Dog of Tears, BGM, Konflux, and Catalyx played outstanding sets. thank you all for your energy and thoughtful, wicked, playful, funky, mad, mad selections and execution throughout the wet night and electric gray day. *gobblegobblegobblegobble!* a bloody, heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to support and have a great time. it was fantastic to give and receive so many radiant smiles. *love*
i rest now.

Whew... 13 hours of sleep just isn't enough.
So yeah. This was a great time. Thanks to everyone who helped out especially:

kArO- newly appointed Vice President of Xexify, i could not have pulled off this event without Karo's magical and gracious assistance. she spent many hours helping me organize the event, round up deco, put up the deco, clean up, deal with the lame ass bands playing before our party, and in general just helped Mindburger to be a totally digestable affair

DJ's- to BGM for playing a wonderful mix of funk and evil, to Konflux for playing my favorite X-Dream track ever, and to Catalyx for playing one of the most twisted, flowing, demonic sets I've heard in some time. It was just perfect for that space.

Everyone who came- Sorry for the ridiculous late start and the foreign crowd. Super duper sorry for that awful DJ playing at the end of the other people's show. The next event is scheduled and it will not be double booked. From now on when we do events at the Corral, it will be 10pm-whenever, just us, no delays.

All in all this event was fantastic!!! I had a great time playing analog drone/soundscape music at like 10 30 in the morning for all the remaining freaks. Emi, you are a psycho path.

If any one has any pics, please PM me. Stay tuned for MARCH 3RD everyone, this is the date of the next Xexify event at the Looney Bin (aka Il Corral). Looks like March should be a pretty good month for trance music...

This was the first party I've ever thrown, by the way, and I would love to hear other peoples thoughts so I can figure out how to improve things in the future. Feel free to post on this thread, PM me, or e-mail me @ drxex@mac.com

Hi

New to LA, but long time party-goer. I've also been a DJ of Psy and Acid for some time.

I really like that type of venue when I go to true underground music. It's cool to feel like you're in someone's (admittedly odd) home and be able to wander around and look at things. The dance floor is a good size, and has lots of space for deco on the walls. The whole event felt like parties I've been to in the London (Acid Techno) underground. Good stuff.

Suggestions-

-video deco on walls (lemme know if you need some help - i do Flash and motion graphics stuff, and it would be easy to project cool visuals with a shitty laptop/desktop and projector. i have a program that can also generate live visuals matched to the beat, and can be controlled through a web browser if you're on a network. yeah, nerdy shit. and maybe a couple of lights on top of the stacks? to get some organic shapes moving around in addition to the projected stuff. that little room will be like outer space for psy parties

-Sound was appropriate for the venue IMO. You could certainly bring in 2 more stacks for 4-way, but it's probably overkill and adds cost. Plus, maybe it would be too close to the door and loud, interfere with people in the back out when they're trying to talk, etc.

-Keep it quiet for now. I'm not sure about LA, but the "rave" scene isn't doing well elsewhere. The crowd was already about the right size for the venue, so more people isn't really the goal. A community vibe is best IMO.

-Introduce other styles of music that share the same philosophy, but sound different. That's also something you see at UK underground parties. Psy is often played next to Acid Techno, D & B, Hardcore etc..

So basically I really thought that your event and the venue were really cool. The obvious choice is to just amplify everything a bit, but more doesn't always = more, you know? I think it will attract the right sort mixed crowd, the people who understand not to trash the place, steal stuff, generally disrespect. So I say continue on your path.

Jesse

Indeed, Aaron. You've just about secured yourself a spot in a place with screaming aplenty and lots of sharp objects. Very, very, very demented morning set

Not only is Emi not allowed to hold sharp objects in Hell, he will also not be allowed to hold *potentially* sharp objects, such as an unbroken bottle.
