London used to be the metropol of trance and very openminded to other directions too when I lived there but what I can see out of the posts is that it's becomed very one way directed with little change in the direction of sound and artists. Correct me if I am wrong
Maybe what London need is some people that dare to break out of the formular that everone seem to go for these days: Full On cloned music
and take a chance to show people soemthing different. If your parties most of the time concentrate on the Isralies and the other full on heads then you risk that London become a second class city regarding parties and freshness. So London my dear dear city... Wake up !!!!

Of course I know shit about what's going on in London since I haven't visited for a long long time... I hope I am not right.

VCO, I know exactly what you mean... IMO the only major problem that i can see is that their are no outdoor parties (for several reasons 1. weather 2. law) and the parties that do take place in london are all in the center with huge line-ups of course that will bring loads of different ppl, specially if who is playing is someone as big as infected mushroom or astral projection.

IMO what it is needed is smaller parties maybe with 1/2 big acts perhaps in a smaller venue or even out of london, but no their has to be 84904058 live acts and right in the middle of zone 1. I got to admit I love the tribe of frog parties is just the way that I like, good/different live acts and out of london in bristol. IMO their are so many other places in England that a psytrance party could take place and I know that ppl would travel (I would and I do).           "Great things are only possible with outrageous requests." If I understand vco correctly he is saying that it would be nice to see more of the classic british and global trance acts that don't subscribe to the new wave full power musical structure. I share this feeling and would love to see more of these people play in london. (My wishlist at the moment includes kox-box live, Serge DJ, Doof Live, Tristan DJ, Son Kite Live, Ticon Live, etc.)

As the mediator types among you may know I am a fully blown trance geek and don't need to be filled in on any of the details of what has gone on and why. I am just supporting what looks like a fair point.

This isn't by way of a call to promotors however either. I know how hard it is to get people to come to those sort of parties nowadays. I also sense that the raw coherence of a new wave party is satisfying for a promotor/dj to see and that many take maximum pleasure from these events. For example Infected live last year was a killer party and the various tip/spun/israeli/alchemy/nano/maia etc acts that have come over have all achieved a lot by way of showing what trance music can do to you.

There is also the terrible grass-greener-on-other-side feeling that I remember while at a resonoise party 3 years ago on the same night as a full-on party. The nu-goa parties are very cool and hip so why bother chasing the techno dream with old krusties who haven't washed or made a new album since before the first Thyssen st party? This is a fair point but one that I hope anyone geeky enough to read this will probably know the answer to already.

I just think its worth registering a prefference like VCO has so that when, next time, people are sitting around trying to decide whether to risk booking Franky or Marcus Son Kite someone can say 'well I did see a few people discussing it on isratrance the other day...'

Good luck with these big parties coming up Mike et al. Without them its questionable if we would still have a scene in london at all.
Just spare a thought for us moaners when next you book a line-up.
peace out,
henry

They don't exist if you are meaning progressive trance....

Technical Wizadry sometimes bring some very welcome progressive to the EQ (e.g. Vibrasphere and Peter Didjital the other week), but that is it at the moment.... except for in the '2nd room' at fullon parties of course....

I am genuinely hopeful that in the new year things will pick up. Various people are talking about upcoming progressive nights in London... e.g. Phony Orphants... or was it Ticon... or both on different nights... well that idea anyway!!

Of course there are some of the best progressive _house_ nights in the world here - e.g. Bedrock... I went along the other week and was bowled over by John Digweed..... and it cost 10 pounds (8 before 10pm, 6 pounds if you are a student!wtf!!!!!!)

Well, as you know Jon, you`re coming to Leeds next weekend for Richard k(Purple) and Peter Didgital + stunning EV sound. KNow what you mean though about london and progressive. Kind of something to do with venues in London.

As far as i`m concerned there aren`t any venues i`want to put a party on at. If there were, there`d be a host of artists to bring over.

Also, what is it with soundsystems in London ? Nobody seems to budget for the sound quality at there parties. It seems as thoughn they`ve forgotten that this is what drives the sound. Nothing sounds good on a bad soundsystem. Gone are the days where promoters sorted there own systems from Chris Boing or Eskimo Noise. Immmacuate sound at 40 K. Stand in front of the rig and chat. after 10 hours on the dancefloor your ears weren`t ringing !!!

I think its worth spending a third of your budget on sound - less if its a huge party.

Somehow seems that a lot of parties are not parties - more like rock concerts. Music showcases.
How can you fit in 3 live acts and 3 dj`s into one night ????

Lets get back to the old days where each dj played for 3 hours.. at least gives them time to play a joutney and relax into there set.

anyhow - back to the music side of things.

Well, seem to remember Frank E, Kox Box, Saiko-Pod and Paul Taylor last year being a corker. Not for all, but whoah.... very futuristic music.

Agree with John though. If you like the prog - get down to Bedrock !!!! this is supreme music!!!!
& yes, serge@samothraki was mind boggling !!! lets get him over here !!!

hear hear humph

When I lived in London we did nice parties where we played even longer than 3 hours

Sad to see that London is so far behind the progressive side of trance but yeah the house side is deffinently in front

Yes, it's weird...that some of the best producers in the world are UK-based, but most of the parties are booking Israeli/other overseas acts.
But it's also true that there are a bunch of people who play for...shall we say reasons which have little if anything to do with selecting the 'best man for the job?' Lots of big parties won't even take demos from new DJs - and let's face it it's pretty rare to go to a party where every set was flawless (the only circumstances under which I'd say it was remotely OK to be totally closed to new talent). It's got to the stage where I've been to parties, paying £15 to get in, to listen to music which was less engaging than the sets a good many friends (none of whom have label contracts/club residencies) can and do play, and in some cases on sound systems that frankly wrecked the music. It's no wonder there are so many disenchanted a: punters (see above) and b: artists (see above) - nice to see one organisation actually making quality a factor in picking crew, though...
