I have S1 v1 and I'm staying before upgrade to v2 but... there is Logic 9 Pro for 150$ at App Store. So I'm wonderig which I could to buy. I know quite well Studio One, but this software has some things which anoying me for ex.: AU MIDI Controled Plugins like MIDI Gater won't work, Mojito is a joke not syntesizer, and strange overload clicks. So I'm thinking about Logic Pro 9 I've never used it but there are tutorial videos and manual.

To all Logic users, I have some questions:
1. Is plugin Like GFX MIDI Gater will work on Logic? Can someone check it? I mean that I need MIDI sends to another track into plugin.
2. Is there and option to edit multiple instrument tracks simultaneously? S1 v2 has it
3. Is there freeze track option?
4. I have Macbook Pro late 2008 (C2D 2.4, 4GB RAM, GF 9400/9600, and osx 10.6). Did Logic will work fine on it?

Cheers!

studio one v2 is the thing to go in my opinion... it has ironed all the quirks the v1 had.
i also had issues with cpu spikes in v2 but the 2.04 update addressed tis issues and now is all very good.

bundled instruments are indeed very basic but i never use them so i dont care.

ive bought melodyne and the integration with studio one is just awesome.. everything else out there seems like old school..

workflow wise i prefer it to anything else out there and i was a die hard flstudio user until few months ago.

although logic price now is very nice and the bundled synths are great.

You have the same macbook as my mate Jordan and Logic, works just fine on that. It can actually take quit a bit of weight, especially if you work with Logic native synths which sound great and are light on the CPU.

Any AU plug in will work on Logic...if your favourite fails there are lots more on the market. StormGate is free and does a good job.

There is a Freeze option.

Dunno about editing multiple tracks simultaneously, Ive never had to do it.

Peace.

An example of a tune made entirely using Logic synths and processing plug ins (except the bassline)

Download it for free here for full audio quality;

you better use the one you re more comfortable with .
logic i think is one if not the most cpu friendly daw on mac, not sure how studio one is in that regard but with your computer using a cpu hog is not a good idea ,it might help to choose if studio one use loads of ressource.

something like ableton live , take way more cpu ressource for the same amount of plugins and track open than a daw that is light on cpu.

if there is demo of logic and studio one try them both and see the one you like the best, both seems very capable .

OK. The choice is Logic 9.
I've done stress test for those daws with same external plugins.
Logic 9 has better cpu/ram management. In S1 v2 was cpu spikes and still not working AU MIDI controled units.

One thing that scares me is that I need to learn new DAW But if you want to buy new DAW software for Mac the Logic is best way.

the logic workflow suit you ? it s tricky at first to learn , but after 1 or 2 months of use everyhting make sense .
studio one seems really good too...

in logic be sure to get familiar with the included fx, some can sound great, most sound good .. also the compressor is really good ,can beat some expensive ones, i think i could do just with that comp for making tunes, it s like many comps in one plug.. the eqs sucks don t like them much personally

The workflow is harder in Logic than S1, but... performance is better, better are instruments, effects, interface clarity and the Inspector with slim/liitle mixer is great for me because I have 15". I'm still learning this soft but I love it in comparision of S1.
