Jhana I can reference you to many producers, that would rather dj their own music, than play it live.

of course, what would u rather lose in a plane or by thiefs. a bunch of cds, or the stufff u make music on...??

my favorite producers ( i dont know which u talking about) but pixel and wrecked machines reallly dig doing their lives. theres something about that that makes the decks less interesting. i also dj and like it .... i am not trying to put producers in another level than djs-... cause they already are!!!! ok im drunk no more talking about this

Funny, I was @ Black Rock City wondering about and this guy just went nuts with his acoutic guitar. Granted he had a wicked delay on it + some other effect... Trully psychedelic experience.

For me that is a tough one, since a good cd collection takes years to gather. Cds are representative on one moment in time and usually unavailable lateron, and gear is just a money issue. But material things come and go. Now if they stole the talent of the artist... now that would be the real bitch

Funny how the topic, which I think is really "on topic" for a psy trance forum, is labelled differently.

This thread is important, since it just shows perceptions and constructs about our very own scene. Also denotes expectations about different type of artists.

It is interesting to hear comments about a party where the lives where shadowed by the DJ sets and the Deco. It is not about what the artist's profession is, it is about what she/he does.

i dont see how this discussion had anything to do with the party anymore... nobody was talking about it.. it was split into this for the sake of order. i dont think its funny at all.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

been there, done that
except it was 2 guys, one with the bucket, the other with the guitar           We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home.

Surrender you know it all dont you, why dont you do parties with live acts consistently every month, I've brought countless live acts to L.A., and the more I do it the more I don't see the point, A live DJ Set is almost the same if not the same maybe even better because you have the artist involved more with the mixer, instead of pretending. Anyways this is electronic music that is sequenced on computers and is impossible to play live anyway, so nothing is really live anyways, there is 3-4 acts out there that are more live than others, like S.U.N. Project but even they are playing over a prerecored set, so there is no room for error. anyways, no reason to make such a big deal, If you prefer live acts then change your genre of music, I seen radiohead and there amazing live...

as long as that bassline don't stop I don't care how its performed. live or dj set its all in the music for me. Anyone in that position is going to play good music so how they present it is not important to me. just keep that crowd alive and rockin and your doing your job! whatever your format is for keeping it going is up to you.

Barakuda,
the reason for my post was on a diffrent topic altogether that was now split into this. in that topic, the promoter deliberately did not write dj set (because he knew that way the ambiguity around the issue would let him slide with the price he is charging) and ignored questions by forum members about whether its live or not... he only responded when i wrote something similar. i have no problem with dj sets or live sets, i have a problem with not delivering what is advertised as a method of business... if he would write etnica dj set and joti dj set, i wouldnt have made a sound.
do u see the distinction?

jhanna-"... as long as it gets the party going ,,, who cares how is t done, or by whom..."

Regardless of your sarcasm, that's exactly how it is for me. I don't care how it's done, name it live act or dj set, what I care about is that I have a good time and a good time for me is when I dance all night. I'm going to a party, not to a concert or to see a show.

People express themselves in many ways and it is the quality of that expression that I am interested in, not the method.
