To my mind acts that only play stereo WAVs with no live element are lying to their audience, and are probably only doing it that way because playing a 'producer DJ set' (ie. DJing a set with only your own music) doesn't earn them as much, or they don't actually have enough musical skills to put on a performance. But then this rips off promoters too, who pay live-set prices and equipment hire costs for what turns out to be a 'press play' performance. This then has knock-on effects on the rest of the party, for instance fewer funds available for decor or even for booking other worthwhile acts.

Sure, probably a lot of people "don't care" whether an act is really playing live or not, and wouldn't know how to tell if they did, but if you're booked as a live act and then just press play then I'm sorry but that's not really very honest, is it. There's no shame in playing a DJ set of your own tracks, and you can give just as much of a show from being behind the decks as you can from behind your laptop. Plus you'll have some self-respect in the morning.

The vibe of every party is different, and the music played before a live act sets a different mood which needs a different journey. With OOOD and Voice of Cod I/we often never know which track is coming next until Rama (or Andrew ) starts it. Keeps the improvisation fresh.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

i concur entirely... There are way too much acts that start playing live way too soon, it is a totally different skill then making music in a studio, and if u never did it, or if ur music isn't made to be played live it's like learning everything anew... And it's better to take ur time to learn how to play live while playing ur music as dj sets, then jumping into a live without the necessary knowledge/experience. This happens with a lot of rock groups too... It takes years and a lot of live performances before ur at a level that's good enough... Ofcourse they can't just make a dj-set with they're music... That's a luxury that u only have in electronic music, and u should use that advantage.

To add to my last post:
Organisers themselves are also in a small way contributing to 'fake' live acts when they base their booking decisions on how many plane tickets they have to buy...           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

could be that the name is what is wrong here,
should be called instead of "live act" better "live set" or maybe "original music set" or just "Artists" .

like this wouldn't matter what kind of show the performer should expose ...
would only matter that music is 100% original and unreleased, not the same cd versions...
and there you have the extra money that the live set deserves .
