what do you think is important in a live act nowdays?

is very necesary to use lots of synths and sequences?
or is ok if the artist brings just a laptop mixing the tracks one after another and tweak some knobs once in a wild?

what is it? æthe music or the skills?

peace to all!

pd. if allready exist this topic plz somebody tell me where is it?.i used the search but didn't find it.

the music is the most important... i guess there's nothing wrong about just mixing the tracks, as long as you don't use the same structure for more than 10 live acts or so...

well in my opinion, i think than the music is more important, but yes.. is nice when the artist play a different structures.

but the important is the connection of the people with the music, dance or dance

The music is why we have parties.
There aren't even Live Acts at GOA, and since lot's of people say GOA had the best vibes, this kinda prooves that we do NOT need a 'performer' to improve the psychedelic experience.

Live Acts are usually way more commercial than DJ Sets, today a lot of Live Acts exists just to 'bring the sheeps to the parties', because these people are more after a 'show' than they are concerned about a psychedelic experience.

Also there's a lot of difference in being really busy with the equipment, because you're using it, and just jump on stage and pretend to be busy.

Skazi can play with 3 guitars, Duvdev can sing his ass off, some girl can make striptease on stage, but none of this would be more psychedelic than the music of a serious artist who really dedicate himself to the very idea of composing mind bending music. But if you're there for the show, I suggest you take the striptease. (no offense, it's just an illustrative example)

The music for sure... we don't need performers on psytrance to. Well... but I thing that adding effects using different ways and structures also improves the music...

Thanks full_on,
thats a really cool view, i have been into that question since there are persons who are just waiting to see the ØshowØ rather than to have a real psychedelic jurney.

As i know , since Goa Gil started with his dats nobody was thinking in how dificult or how easy was that job, just dancing and getting into trance was the important.

Once i had the oportunity to take a picture on Infected M. computer ..and guess what .. they were using just a laptop with cubase mixing one track after another, no live sequencies, no live tweaks, no nothing, just the lap and of coarse everybody was screaming for Duvdev ass while he was so busy singing and seeing his lap.
But once i went to my first Gil party and everybody was cool in their own trip.

Silence and trance was the ritual that night.

Psytrance live acts set the bar fairly low... I've seen some of the biggest names in the biz come out and play shoddy sets, simply re-arranging the order of the tracks on their last album and not doing anything new... it is a disappointment for me as a fan and enthusiast to witness excellent producers come out and play a canned set like this. I don't need a show but I like to have a live element to a performance... as it stands, most live acts are only live in the sense that, yes, they are living, and better than a corpse, but nothing else beyond that... poetic justice for rampant piracy?

I agree with Serag...when there isn't a lot of hype surrounding the performer, its more about whats really important: the TRANCE! For me, the only reason i come out when theres a big name on the flyer is because I know there'll be a lot of people there. But once i'm there, I usually enjoy DJ sets more than live because its much more of a journey. Too many artists have a specific 'style' that they don't venture too far from, thus I find their live sets to be kinda monotonous.

Granted, I would LOVE to see more live psychill groups. I've seen the video on YouTube with a live Shpongle performance of "divine moments of truth" and it looks amazing. Also, Tabla Beat Science's live album is one of my favorite cd's ever.

I belive that the most important thing is the music, most of the people who go to the parties today (at least here in Brazil) don“t even know de artists on stage and have no knowledge to evaluate the skill of the artists, so the good music tends to be better to everyone...

for the veterans who like the music best...

and for the newbies to introduce good music...

cheers

It's neither... Most people who come to the live-act don't know anything about music. What they know is that if there is no movement, the live-act sucks, if there is movement it is great... So even if u do a low-skill live-act, make sure people have something to watch, that they see movement, then they will feel it is good, and if u only move ur hands to move the mouse-pointer or to press keys on the computers keyboard they will feel cheated, even if it is a highly technical live-act... Make sure there are some machines/controllers that offer visual feedback to the listener/viewer and they will have the feeling that u did a great live-act... Even if u only do very simple things. Also, if u get some friends o help u with the live-act (they have to know a little about music ofcourse) it will be even more interesting because then u are watching a group of people, who are all moving in one way or another... Get some people to do live-percussion for example...

ofcourse, if the music sucks all this doesn't matter, but i assume that if u are asked to do a live-act that ur music will be good enough to be heard...

i think the artist should have to change the structure for every single party!

I don`t care how much equipment dose the artist use. As long as their live act isn`t like listening to their original tracks.

The thing I appreciate the mosta about live acts are live remixes! For me - that`s what a live should be all about!
