but there is a huge flaw in that line of thinking. If the problem is corrupt governments and rich countries give "aide" to the african people that is distributed by the corrupt governments its much more likely we are actually just strengthing the corrupt government by making them rich while the people see nothing.
My biggest problem with activism is that people seem to concerned with the way the world should be and not with how the world IS.
I dont care how good intentions are, if its actually making the problem worse in reality you are NOT doing good. |

Exactly.
But some people tend to wash their hands by giving some money and then they think all is good. I used to do that too.
I call it to close out reality. I rather that we find solid solutions that do work instead of giving more money to yet another dictator's pockets.
That's called action instead of talk. |

Yes, Madona herself sent cash to african leaders, common you don't even know where they send the money. Probably the place is human aid organizations.

If you think our remarks are "not so clever" because Human Aid organisations are doing a good job (which they far from do) and because Madonna send money to them then I vote for your school money to be returned to you. i like the depth of this discussion but are we really needing to try to judge people and to understand them, I wont say it but you no what they say about leaving all........ especially here where we can see so little of each other. I reckon if you got a point to make this is a pretty good place to make it. We all got a part to play int ehis jigsaw and how ever wrong you think somebody else is pointing it out rarely ever achieves much constructive, especiely in the anonominity of an internet forum.
I think anybody that actually does really no whats going on will keep it pretty close to their chests. We can all make entertainment trying to work it out and thats good. evolution is the best thing and it will force the truth in the long run. |

well i thought the whole point of live 8 was to get the G8 governments to forgive african debt. Do you think governments give aid to organizations? I would think the highest probability in the situation is that governments deal with governments. Do i know this for sure? Of course not, no one does but that scenario has the highest probability of any scenario.
isnt this to polical for this board anyway at this point? We should lock this thread, put on our rose colored glasses and just dance and pretend we are doing something for "good". |

The 'point' of Live8 was (supposedly) to bring about world-wide consciousness of the situation in Africa in order to create a public outcry (carried by the media) that would be too strong for the G8 leaders to ignore. Considering the psy scene is still pretty much a niche, underground kinda thing with little media coverage, the answer to the original thread question would be... 'we' (as in the 'psy scene') could have been involved - but it would have made sod all difference.
If i was a cynical person i would say that with events like this one, the (not so well) hidden agenda of many of the artists involved is to get some truly massive worldwide publicity for 15 minutes or so free work, boost sales of their music (and in some cases, their flagging careers) whilst publicly patting themselves on the backs for helping all those 'poor needy people'. Saints the lot of 'em!
