koh phangan....Thailand...?

Hi guys..just wondering if any of you have been to koh phangan or nearby islands ?
need some first hand info about the party scene there ....i know about the full moon parties etc.... but im not really up for that...im hoping someone could share any info about the proper doofs with likeminded people
want to avoid the usual tourist hoopla at fullmoon/halfmoon parties...

Hey man,
I just got back 2 days ago from Koh Phangan. Went for the 2nd time.
The party scene is very commercial. Even more this time than last time. Its best you stay off haadrin beach if you wanna avoid the full moon party crowd. It gets very messy and too many drunk people. Although ZOOM on haadrin plays excellent psytrance and progressive music. The vibe was surprisingly really good one night before full moon at zoom. Had some excellent mushrooms and danced till morning. Made some good friends too.
Sadly you see too much of the commercial crap around and kind of spoils the vibe a bit.
There was this moonset party I went for in Pirate bar north of Thong Sala in Sri Thanu. Beautiful location. Decent electronica and more psychedelic people.
If I go to Koh Phangan again I would stay in the north. Its more peaceful and definitely less commercial and im sure theres a lot happening there that I dont even know about.
About close by islands, Ive only been to Koh Tao. Its a small island known for scuba diving. Music is again commercial and so are most of the people. I looked high and low for a trance party but couldnt find anything. The dives are excellent btw.
Another close by island is Samui which is basically like another phuket ie. too many dirty tourists.

thanks a lot man that was great help...
thats the thing...from what ive heard its all extremely commercial...
but im actually planning to go in december last week...with the family until 27th december..going to spend a week with everybody then when they leave back for india after christmas...ill stay back for another week...go to the experience festival over new years and just chill out basically
from the pics experience festival looks quite nice and the vibe also seems to be very friendly...
its been so long since my last doof...im just really really hoping this works out..

Oh you didnt mention your going for experience festival! It happened Koh Tao last year. Some people I know were there and they had a blast!! Its surely gonna be awesome. Lucky you. Infact thats also the reason I went to Tao bcoz I thought its gonna have some trance scene.
Theyr pretty strict about substances but seems like they completely ignore mushrooms atleast in koh phangan. Its pretty open. Big signs saying 'special shake' or ;happy shake'. Haha! And theyr good. Very good. I guess everyone knows that people come there to party and just turn a blind eye since its bad for business. Its easy to find almost everything in phangan. Still commercial though.

ya man....in india for a while now and havent managed to go for too many parties...just a couple in goa...so whenever i can i plan travel/holidays around some nice goa festival.... last was solstice festival near amsterdam...what friendly people and what a party...incredible scene there.
just hope experience works out too...

jungle experience is quiet nice.. is not big like other parties but very nice.. u can organise party also there if u have enuff frens playing music..
other parties are also nice if u go there after 4 am .. when all the bucket heads are knocked out..
ban tai.. is place to stay.. there is nice after party in ban sabai on sundays..
over all, the place is beautiful, crystal clear water, nice beaches and bitches..
is my fav place to be in the whole world..
enjoy thailand.. i sooo wanna be there..
and solstice in ruigoord was killa.. really good party

LSdance, Are you talking about Jungle experience or experience festival? They are both completely different.
This is experience festival in Koh Tao. A nearby island.

talking about the experience festival mate...the same one on the website you posted..
i think aseem was just generally talkng about jungle experience..
the lineup looks very full on...wish there were a few proggy artists...maybe the ones i havent heard of play progressive |

Hey! The Full Moon Party was mental! In a good way! I mean, there are always things you see that you wish you didn't but hey, that's not how it works, is it? I went for the June edition and it's basically different stages on the beach playing different types of electronic from psy to drum and bass to dubstep to house and even regular club music.) It's a night of debauchery so guess what, that's what is on everyone's mind! Definitely gonna go again cos I enjoyed dancing, my friends, the music, the beautiful beach and THE FULL MOON! Go to enjoy and enjoy you will! When the sun rises, and you see all this mental folk around you, you cant help but smile! Great experience. And speaking of that, see you in Koh Tao on NYrs! Nearby islands-Samui is lovely, lived there a short while and apart from the tourist spots, it is magic. Koh Tao was my favourite of the lot-shanti as we call it! Phi Phi and Krabi both well-worth visiting for the beaches! As you have noticed, I can get carried away talking about this amazing country! I live here now, so if you need to know anything... Cheers!

Check @ Ooze Bar in BKK
they will be havin an xmas/new year gig, not by the beach but in the lake in kanchanburi...also i think in oct they have one gatherin...moon mountain
if not thailand...cross over to cambodia for new year

Anyone going to to Koh Phangan also look out for the Shivamoon family at Ban Tai (if they're still doing parties)...after-parties at a very cool indoor spot at Ban Sabai. Great vibe.

but the thing is...right now all i can think about is being at a nice goa/psychedellic festival....which is smaller and more intimate than the full moon parties...the whole idea of being in a place with like minded people ...nice friendly vibes..the all knowing smiles you get from everyone around you....these are all happy memories and i want to re-live those days...just thinking about it all is making me happy 
but feels slightly better that someone has good things to say about the full moon festival...just in case im not able to make it to experience festival in koh tao..its always nice to have another option! |

are the beaches nice in cambodia? i dont think i can talk my woman out of going anywhere that does not have a beach |

30000+ people raping a 1km stretch of beach. Probably much more on new yrs. Literally thousands of glass and plastic bottles chucked around (friend of mine got 12 stitches on his foot). June/July is low season so not so many people. New years will be absolutely insane!! And I dont mean that in a good way.
No doubt thailand is paradise but I wish I had better things to say about the FMP. Thats just my opinion.
