Is it just me.... or is there like tonnes of dark compared to little quality morning.. i mean i prefer morning any day to dark.... and there be just a handful of artists comming out with quality morning..... but dark... well thats a completely different story altogether. |

there are very few quality dark alboms and compilations i dont think this style has alot of originality but there are few that really good and psychedelich |

Less artist are producing morning music that's true.
I cannot say I prefer either or.
I love both if:
* The quality is high
* If it has a character (Originality)
* If it's psychedelic
* If it's intelligent
* If it has a certain impact on the dancefloor
This is not about the style but about the quality.
Up to sometime ago festivals used to be of high quality at all times.
To give an example in 1999 I went to Solipse in Hungary amd the music was so good at all times (morning,afternnon & night) they I ended up ignoring the line up and just enjoy whoever was playing including some new names. |

there is lots of good dark music out there
eg kemic-al his music is good dark , original style a lot of crazy sounds and good ideas , production is also good his album rocks tracks like 188 ac train to nower and klassic-al are juss to good
a lot of artists are original
even sum stuff on ketuh records is good
even nikita ( penta ) has his own kinda dark style which is original . u can make out it is a penta track by just hearing it .
artists always try to be original and every track will have sum fresh ideas but yea sumtimes we do hear a lot of " non - original " music wer tracks sound nearly the same as other artist
this depends from artist to artist
as sadi by psy soldier : there are very few quality dark alboms and compilations i dont think this style has alot of originality but there are few that really good and psychedelich
i dnt agree with this but well thats juss my opinion and ive given a couple of examples to back it up
afterall it all depends on wat u call " original " and not " original "

There are acts out there still making good quality morning music and night music. It's just everyone's perception of what is good quality is different from person to person

i believe psychedelic has necessarily something to do with the unexpectable, morning full on has been repeated over and over again, main bands use and abuse acess virus and nord lead typical full on presets, many artists workin for the same label share the same presets between them, as we can easily see in chemical crew , tipical skazi synths overabused by void, damage etc, and most israelian bands that we are unable to distinguish, like astrix, dynamic, alien project, melicia just to name a few.
dark trance as some call it actually brings something new as there are no bands running a stereotipated sound, each band finds its path with their own synths lines and synth presets, bringing something new in each track that has been released. a good example to prove this is the new kindzadza & friends compilation, each track remixed or made in colaboration with kindzadza, but at the same time each track completly diferent from each other.
apart from each one musical taste, sooner or later people end getting fed up with always listenning to the same kind of tracks, if they all sound the same. so i see in a very natural way the increasing number of "dark" compilation being released today |

Very well said Lithium... The funny thing is most of the "dark" trance that comes out really isn't all that dark in comparison to really dark stuff, the thing is it has an absense of the stereotypical melodics that were found in lots of goa and uplifting melodic trance. Last year there were quite a number of full on comps and albums released to the point where the market was saturated by that sound, it's only natural to expect a larger amount of stuff from the other end to come out this year as a direct backlash to the amount of full on that came out last year. It's a swinging pendulum of sorts...

many people make "darkpsychedelic" stuff because u don't need musical knowledge in order to create it....
it's a new trend 'cause many people now can make trance with just a computer and some speakers
it's easy and fast to make, u don't need to take care of the harmonies because there are none
indeed u can say it's unpredictable because most of the time it has totally no rythmic structure, it's just random atonal noises on a kick bass
but for sure there are some exceptions and some people know how to make it good... but it's a really small number compared to the bunch of shit that is being released these days

most full on melodies are made with arppegiators, thats maybe one of the reasons why they sound so much the same. saying that anyone can make dark trance cause its easier i really don´t see so much sense on that. besides i think is always easier to copy something that already exits than to create something new. makin a track where 80% of the melodies are one key pressed and the arppegiator running with some tweaking with the filter frequency, doesn´t seem very artistic, although i must admit it has been a formula that worked for the last 2 or 3 years, no doubt about that.

Very well said yet again Lithium one key + filter and bobs your uncle mate melody ready fresh from the synth unlike you work so hard for that sound to grind off as much as cheeze as possible twisting turning chopping etc etc to create your own sounds so you will not sound like rest and chong saying there is no music ability ! changing tones and giving notes to the that particular sound you have created, creating your own syntisizing ain't no ability !?, either then just taking notes and arppegiators straight of the synth,(In this case thats what some peolpe call it cheeze fluffy commercial and stuff like) we have just taking producing a little further then that ! to say the least psy trance is more about producing sounds & creating your sounds and athmospheres with different layers and of coarse to have the ability to make all sound good together to my Believe then of being some Sebastian Baah!
Could be very well an other reason why some people call it Dark since it's not the usuall sounds and arppegiators straight of the synth that he he he you are left in the dark for 'How was those sounds created?' ....
To my opinion of coarse if you don't produce your sounds and patterns and create a crazy out come then yes it's easy listining music not psychedelic ! but in that case why boder trying to make psychedelic ! |
