well, due to all the talk in this forum, i thought it will be beter to leet ourself express what we think about the scene in japan,in the past and present, and what will happend in the future.is it to comercial, why is it bad today?why did it change?.
most travelers that are visiting japan do not feel the change in the scene in japan, explain why is it diferent to them then to the local japanese trancers?i know the change and feel it also, the most interesting trance scene in the world,THE END?......
sorry for all the bad comments in the past.

i was very lucky to enjoy the last year(as i see it)of really good partys in tokoy,i thnk that in tokyo there is a big cahnge,it become more a money thihng, the younger pepole are more and more into the scene, becouse of money invulved the mafia is more and more seen at partys(and drugs)i still like it,but not really going yto big events as in the past.but in most places in the world its changed.but for production, its a killer scene, deco, music, perfect.the change came around 1999-2000.but i still like it.

I came to Tokyo 6 years ago from Melbourne and I can only tell you my own story and feelings. I was a big fan of Tsuyoshi Suzuki but didn't know the Japanese scene at all. I went to a lot of parties from 98-2001 and I thought the scene was smaller then and really cool, I made many new friends, saw many of the same faces at parties... big and small. Tsuyoshi changed his style... I didn't like this, maybe he got bored... but still respect to him.

Last 2 - 3 years I feel the scene really got bigger, younger type crowd started coming to parties (maybe some dont know the spirit but I hope they will learn), more and more international artists came (less focus on local Japanese artists), big parties (sometimes too crowded!!!), more expensive and no chill out areas!!!

2003 - 4 I decided to organize my own parties and started to meet other organizers who do underground parties and support new Japanese artists. Check out http://www.earthcore-japan.com/psychedelik16.htm
I think many people in the last 2 - 3 years made their own group and organized smaller parties. I like MANAS crew the best. About 300 ppl, beautiful locations, great Japanese artists and the best vibe in the Tokyo area.

So I think there are 2 types of parties in Japan...
Big expensive parties with an international line-up and lots of kids and crowded camping or dance floors.
Smaller more underground parties with friendly people supporting Japanese artists.

I prefer the underground parties because of the great vibe but 1 big party a year can also be fun.
I feel very happy about the future because I made good friends and found good parties. I hope party people will keep supporting underground parties and keep the vibe.

Travelers dont need to know all this, they just come to Japan, go to the big parties, look at the strange Shibuya boys and girls, have fun, go home ... that's OK 4 them. Local Japanese Trancers are looking for community and vibe.           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.

Well in my opinion the scenece here is sick...a lot of people that come to the parties today dont give a shit about the music...only about what they wear and how they look...
i dont have nothing against the young people that make the events so crowded,i was like them 5,6 years ago...
but my reasons to come to a trance parties were totaly different than today's people...
its kind of fun for me to see all these kids thinking they are big mafia...and all the girls thinking they are sexy and that they are the center of everybody's world...coz they wear exp' cloths...
THATS NOT PSY TRANCE THATS FASIHON SHOW
i guess thats the scene in japan today, not only in trance.
maybe the next thing is woman carrying small signs saying:look at me i'm beautiful!!!
my problem in this scene is that the big orgenizers bring all the top artist while the small ones support local dj and artists.
sorry if i hurt somebody but almost all the local dj and artist sucks in my opinion...thats my taste anyway
after 3 years here...i am desperate to listen a good set by a local dj.
so i have no choice but to go to the big crowded parties,or sometimes being lucky get to an event that isn't in differ...
your site is nice ken but the music is way far from me...
good luck in the future

I know Japan scene back from 1996, and mostly I agree with Ken. My opinion is that someway trance weakened here, if only a fraction of a bit. I think that people lost that sense of "magic time" parties would bring to you then. But I guess it's because the music got harder too. I remember once I saw Mondo playing a track so etheral and so powerful at the same time, that I didn't know whether I should dance or should I pay attention to that beautiful piece of music. My oppinion is that it was more trancier back then, now it's only another electronic music genre. It's still good, but it was better before.

Magic is gone, I think.

Peace and Love
