Hello all..

I was just thinking about things the other night, when i came to me that, How much can we trust people's opinion's on music reviews here on the forum?? ok, sounds stupid, but look at it this way.. You hear the CD, you give your review. You get a promo from the artist, you give a better review.. We read the reviews and can't tell the difference since all the albums are just so KILLLER...

Then there's all the political conflicts between labels and artists or artists and other artists.. Thus leaving a bad or negative review in a very talented album..

Taste is taste, but still.. for discussion purposes..

Besides buying the album and listening it for ourselves, do you think there's a way to tell if a review is bias or not??

I think with time you know better the users, and know who to trust.
Also, there's lots of opinions by many users in each CD Review Topic, so you can read all and find out what you should believe. You can listen to the samples online and have your own opinion.

That's what's the Review session is about: give opinion about thew releases.

Also, you can usually tell by the writing itself whether the review is stupid fan gaga. Even when their native tongue is not english a person can still communicate the concepts of why this or that release makes a difference or not. Poetic reviews are always welcome.

There are couple of guys who have pretty nice English , Imagination and Objective Critism to review music . As full_on wisely said "learn the reviewers" .I trust (DeathPosture)

So far this year most reviewed(popular) albums are Misted Muppet and Son Kite but i don't like them both . One is commercial shit and other fake of old Infected Mushroom . I read many great review on them both and was realy disappointed when i put them on my speakers , so it's personal .

No matter who writes the review, it is their personal opinion. As mono mono said, you can tell the psy-maturity of the reviewer pretty quickly and over time it is easy to learn whether your own personal taste aligns with a regular reviwer. It is much quicker to read the review while the samples from an online record store are playing.

Different people are also seeking different things in records. Audio quality, writing ability, bubble gum hooks, etc. It's not really possible to determine someone's personal journey If what you read, matches what you listening to, you've probably got a good review for your own taste.

If you really want to see bias, go into the promotional section

Me three!! Its nice to read a review that someone has posted when you know they have a large range of style that they like. At least then the review wont be so bias against specific types and styles.

But then again the review is for those who really like the album and are sharing their feelings on why they think a specific album is hot! If you dont like it, then dont blaim the person that told ya to buy it!! That is what samples are for!           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears
But whether dragon tears are bitter or sweet
depends entirely on how each man perceives the taste ::

DeathPosture is one example of a good reviewer. A few more I can think of right now are krelm, bluespectralmonkey, pks. Sorry if I forgot anyone.

You should also know the taste of the reviewer. Try reading by the reviews who shares the same taste as you. I am for example a fan of melodic music, and if anyone was following my reviews on the main site I review just about only melodic fullon and usually very honestly. So don't expect from me positive reviews about dark or techtrance or something.

Get to know your reviewers - it can help. If you go out and get an album come back to compare to the review... soon you will find people who have taste or opinions which can be helpful in finding yourself new music to appreciate.

Well, as it has been said, you learn to trust certain users. Many times you will learn who to trust by checking the threads about the albums you like yourself and find people who share your taste.
Also, I will never trust a review that only says that a CD is good, or a killah CD, but only a review that will be more specific and much more descriptive.

As for the site itself, i.e. IsraTrance reviews - we review CDs we get from labels and artists or that we buy ourselves. We try to be as impartial as possible and distribute the work among us to have different approaches and concepts. Sometimes we let non-team-members review a CD, but that's only when we know the reviewer well and trust his/hers neutrality.
Since we are a non-commercial website, it is easier for us to stay neutral in most cases.
We try our best.
