I think you people should stop labeling him as being a trader just because you refuse to understand what he wrote... He's been repeating over and over again that you misunderstood his post..... So stop this childish attacks and try to understand what the man is saying! That there's a BIG problem out there called trading! I too check out ftp's! To see if they trade my music! Does that make me a trader too? He's starting a label and is of course also interested to see how bad and big the problem is .... so he visit ftp's too.... Not all visiting ftp's are trader's... comprende?

And then there will be no point in releasing those unreleased tracks because everyone has them.

Been discussion a bit different issue with the Doopeler guys, and I believe that there is only one solition to the problem of uncontrolled tracks on the net:
Artists and Labels - the solution is in your hands.
Artists - when making a track, as much as you are proud of yourselves, DO NOT COPY IT TO ANYONE. not to friends, followers, worshipers - no one. Once you copy it, its out of your control. I know its tempting to gain 'respect' by it, but think about the overall view of professionality, not the immediate pleasure of promotion.
Labels - when getting promotional music, it is entrusted in your hands for safekeep. Many label workers are DJs themselves who travel and mix in the society, and we all know what happens when a 'famous' DJ comes to town... This material is given by trust, and should be kept this way.

On suggestion to artists: choose some tracks that you think are good but not the best, and make them your promotion material (like 'calling card'). These you can send as promtion to labels to introduce your style and material. If the label likes the material, then you can send over the real material for release. We did that with some of the older stuff of Visual Paradox, and it worked wonders.

cheers,

then one shouldn't really send music to xxx label for their owner uses soulseek something like 24/7.. also heard about certain online trance store and it's connections to certain trance mp3 ripper group.. 1st one is a fact, 2nd one is a rumour..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

Exactly my second point, trav...
Labels are also responsible for the spread of unreleased music.
Just like Nokia is keeping its secrets inside the company and if its using an outside contractor to do certain work on a future product, it selects it also for its credibility and level of security - believe me, I know.
The music is the product, and should be kept safe until it is published, both by developer (artist) manufacturer (label/distributor).

And please, don't start giving examples of DJ cases being stolen or computers hacked into - of course there is a limit to the ability to safeguard the music, and accidents happen. I try to keep my music case always on me, although I can re-make most of it from backups - its for the unreleased music entrusted in my hands that shouldn't be delivered into the wrong hands.

Hey FUNKKIMUNKKI there's no excuse to trade any kind of music.... No matter what genre or how old it is...

I thought you did not trade music... Guess I was wrong.

elysium thats what i mean with denying the problem.. i wonder how many people here honestly can say they never downloaded any kind of music, program or movie,...

so if i share a few tracks that i like that makes me a trader?...
and btw none of the tracks in my shared prolly even ever made it to a release or is already sold out many years... or is even shared by the musician himself on the net

i guess u and me have a different view on what trading is..
ill push u over the edge, and will be smiling when u cant take anymore, at that point ill push a little harder till u experience true psychdelica

how did you keep/maintain your FTP accounts? i know you are there only to see that your stuff isn't there but what did it cost to get in?           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

I never pay and I don't go to many ftp's since I am on a Mac and therefore can't use much of the software around. But occasionally I find some that I can enter and sometimes I lie to them telling them that I have lot's of "stuff" just to get in and "spy". There's also lot's of traders on peer to peer solutions for Mac like Hotline and Carracho... So I make my "undercover" actions there.

But it's a jungle out there and terrible difficult to see the Forest for all the trees.
