Something i've been reading in rewievs-section and also here in general.

"The music is pretty boring (or we've heard this 1000000 times before). But it has great production so its good"

I start to feel that some people look at the production first, and then the actuall music.
I mean if you don't like the music what difference does it make if the music is well produced or not?? If you want well produced music, check out DR. Dre beats or Britney

So i was wondering: why do some of you people go for production in the first place instead of the music?
I believe the music itself is the most important thing.
Discuss?

Føkk production, what counts is great compositions and structure in a psychedelic way!

The way I see it is great production + bad composition = a shame.

And Vica versa.

However there's a lot of purely sound based stuff out there with little melody which relies heavily on production to get it point across. In this case great production is essential.

Then also remember there's a whole history of classic goa trance where the production is far from world class, but damn are those melodies both hooky and hypnotic.

Also I dont remember listening to a recent psy track and thinking "man... this production is bad!".
But then I have heard many rock albums that were recorded on dictaphones... in sheds.

/signed but imo good composition + production is more valuable. (therefore the bigger shame)^^

If the composistion is crap in the first place its a shame to produce it in such high quality

Actual Music is too far from production & stuff for me...... i would prefer to listen unmastered demo version of well done composition rather than a digitally mastered version of a bad composition with no soul.

But yea

good composition + good production = Monster

Bad produced music will not be released - Its a fact.
Boring music or not original, will be released - it's about opinions.

When someone says that the production is good about boring album it's in order not to be totally cruel with the review.

Answer is no indeed. And yes, there's much music released that hasn't been produced so well. Take Finnish stuff for example, the production might not be of best possible quality, but music speaks for itself. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but atleast it has some very original aspects in it.

well...to put it in a nutshell, i would say that the music today is more production oriented. We may call it evolution. Coz if u look now psytrance has gained immense popularity and as a result people are comparing or setting the standards as to other genres of music, where the production quality is quite high. And of course the music matters first, and thats where i guess , today u can differentiate between good music and bad music.....coz coincidentally the production quality has really notched up these days. And as somebody said earlier..... if u get good composition and good production.....wat cld be better??

Excellent topic !

i'd say it's 50/50

There's good music with horrible production (please go find someone who know how to mix the music properly and how to eq the music properly).

There's superb production but sterile boring copy & paste factory music (please learn what a key on the keyboard is or quit making music and become a engineer instead).

Then there's good music with good production and horrible music with horrible production.

Production and the musical content are two differnt aspects of a psytrance tune.

Production is important, but if the musical content is not that much interesting (for example the Domestic album) it does not attract me.

On the other hand, if the music is good, but does not have a good production (for example, a lot of stuff before 2002) I feel that the music could be even better, and I pray for a remix.

IMO Music is of paramount impotance, but the production must be at least at the minimum standard in order for the music be appreciated in its fully extend.

I don't think people place production over musical content, those who do it are missing the point of listening music IMO (unless they're sound technicians ).

i love musical content , but i cant enjoy as much if it was produced better sometimes (suomisaundi specialy) good production aint that hard so why to skip it..

also alot of the problem many artists today dont have musical idea , just knowledge in eq and software..

the REAL problem is why labels realese shit , or why peaple buy it. if artist wanna sound like shit , its ok with me , but dont ask me listen to this.

the story in the muzik is the most important essence of muzik....i would say da soul, which ofcourse is primary to n-joi any piece of muzik,if its not digitally mastered out of some phat sound production lab....boring tracks with no story n uber production is not what i want......a little bit of this and a little bit of that is what's the BEST deal out here.
