Last afternoon, I played some psy chill at work just to see their reaction. Initially no one even realized that there was a change in the music. Later, I got varied reactions like, "please dont put me to sleep, im sleepy enough..' and 'very weird choice of music'. one of them even came by said that he thought i was watching some sort of musical movie
Even among my friends, there are some who listen, but only a selected few tracks here and there and their attention span towards chill is too less for them to find the initiative to start listening or buying cd's!

Anyway, the point I am trying to make here is, what will be the ideal artist album/ compilation or set/ tracks that I should play so that I can make other people who don't (most of them don't know that such a genre exists, since electronic music is not so popular around where I live) listen or have never heard such music start grooving or liking it?
Have you had similar situations, maybe played a set at a party where the you don't know the choice of music of the audience.
Nothing is said that has not been said before.

Personally I find chill way more accessible to people than trance is. I find it to be the perfect entry point for friends and family who find trance simple "boom boom" music. Chill is like a doorway into our genre.

Simple, new Shulman Album.

Put "Mia Nihta Mono Den Ftani" to play and watch their reactions It worked for me "Oh, good music" "Great Flute Indeed"

it would be nice to know where you live Forest? (for the comparison)
What we call "Chill out" here is a genre that is easy, to listen, to understand...
compare to other form of music like free jazz, modern jazz, contemporary classical or abstract stuff...
A lot of people will not pay attention to the details of the production and will only hear something that reminds them of a lounge, new age compilation or of their old pink floyd LP's
But to me it's better to mix all kind of music (styles) in a set, so at the end it's not about chill out music...it really depends on the artist that you are playing.
and for the albums that could represent the eclecticism and a good start, i would say " KLF - CHILL OUT" , "FSOL - LIFEFORMS"

i find Shen - "Outlines" to be a good compromise for people who say chillout "puts them to sleep" or "is weird"

All in all though, i've found that no matter how hard you try to get someone into chill, it usually just flies right over their head. You could be playing the greatest fucking song in the world, and they wouldn't know the difference

liking this music truly is a gift

I think da777 hit the nail on the head. A majority aren't overly opened minded about things, and that includes music. Within the first few seconds they'll compare it to something they are familiar with, and (unless it really catches their attention) switch it to "background mode" where they're only half-listening and missing out on any real details. It's too bad really, but that's human nature I suppose.

I live in India, Asia. Well, the majority of the people here do not know about the existence of this genre. and other forms of electronic music isn't that popular either. There is a surge in the number of people who have started listening to house and EDM however psychedelic music hasn't really caught on and more or less underground so you can imagine how challenging it is..

hmm... yeah.. totally agree. People just wont pay attention because they are so used to either dancing, or singing along that the moment there is wordless music, it all appears to be loungish or ike world music for them.
