i have a restaurant, which is full / packed with people every day. in the evenings we play ambient in the background and the reaction of the guests is really unbelievable - there are always guests which wanna know album names, track names and wanna know the style of this music.

i also play ambient in the lounge of a 4star hotel - with guests from all around the world - there you can have guests which complain about the music - but most of the guests are giving compliments or comments like:' i never heard such beautiful music before' - or - 'what is that music - is this beauty really true?' and so on - making this genre accessible to 'other' people can be really positive...go on and out and try it more often

Last afternoon, I played some psy chill at work just to see their reaction. Initially no one even realized that there was a change in the music. Later, I got varied reactions like, "please dont put me to sleep, im sleepy enough..' and 'very weird choice of music'. one of them even came by said that he thought i was watching some sort of musical movie
Even among my friends, there are some who listen, but only a selected few tracks here and there and their attention span towards chill is too less for them to find the initiative to start listening or buying cd's!

Anyway, the point I am trying to make here is, what will be the ideal artist album/ compilation or set/ tracks that I should play so that I can make other people who don't (most of them don't know that such a genre exists, since electronic music is not so popular around where I live) listen or have never heard such music start grooving or liking it?
Have you had similar situations, maybe played a set at a party where the you don't know the choice of music of the audience.

Hey

I understand your situation. I live in Mumbai, India and I really have a tough time explaining them about all these psychedelic music.

But couple of weeks back when i was explaining my buddies abt the radio station I run and abt psychill music i play, i thought i could make them listen to some samples. At this time, I had only ChRonos - Step to Great knowledge album with me and i played for them.

To my surprise everyone was hooked on to listening the whole album and now they wanna listen to more of this stuff. So, I would suggest stuff like Asura, ChRonos, Zero Cult, Pitch Black etc.

its all about grabbing their attention to make them listen than rather making them hear it.

I live in Bombay too, and yeah i guess you know how many of us here really know about psy chill or even trance. I have to now buy a pair of head phones so that I dont distur others at work with this gift of music. anyway, I havent heard chronos yet.           Nothing is said that has not been said before.

Definitely, as well try with Jazzanova, Thievery Corp. or that kind of stuff.

I don't think it's all about what you play them but when & how you play it. At work people are not going to notice the artistry of the music as they are busy doing other things.
Take everyone to a club & when you come home for a smoke in the wee hours of the morning put on some mind expanding psychedelic chill. As they sit there in the early morning haze they will be falling in love with it without even realising it.
Start of with something like Shpongle - Are You Shpongled? and play that while it's still dark & around the time of the dawn put something more sunny on like abakus or kuba. Finally as the after party is wearing down & people's heads are starting to grow thick put on some beautiful ambient like Ishq - Orchid or if people are really cabbaged then Elve - Infinite Garden

o sry didn't read the thread good .. well .. the new younger brother of course .. just stay away from the beatless soundscapes style of ambient and most should take a liking to it .. and maybe a bit of mite help ease em into the mood too =)

+1
Today, late in the evening when everyone had left and a couple of them weren't doing much work, I played some nada (rajamati) and a couple of girls said they are suddenly in the mood to drink wine.. and they said must be the music.. so I took this as an opportunity and went on to play Idan rachel's come and the same girl absolutely loved it, and came by to my desk to check what language it was.. & to me it felt like a small victory of sorts. well, the club part is a bit far off, smoking here is out of the question, but a great idea none the less. I'm slowly learning what people end up liking initially, so much so that they would get out and buy a cd! Its a great feeling, theres so much music out there, just unbelievably lovely music that can make your moment blissful the moment it hits your ears.. oh.. btw... heloo babasio, nice to see you here           Nothing is said that has not been said before.
