yesterday i read this article in the newspapers.

Individual CD is the keyword that will revolutionize the international music market. In the future, the music-fan wont have to pay much money for a disk only because he likes one song on it. Since yesterday, its possible to compile an individual cd of 15 tracks and a maximum length of 70 minutes, for 24 CHF (~15 euro) and u can burn this cd on the spot. this project is supported by Universal and Sony Music.
The commercial director from Sony Music Switzerland: "ith this method, we'll satisfie our customers and it also fights the illegal downloading of copyrighted music".
Those "Individual-CD-Machines" will be situated in music shops, boutiques, petrol stations (sidenote: LMAO!!!) and in trainstations.

what do u think about this??

i think they should open their eyes...

Huh, I don't get the idea at all, I must say. What is it about ? Blank CDs at 15 euros each ? A new burning machine ? Where do we get the songs from ? From Sony Internet site ? A bit murky for me...

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE !!

I think it is a good idea.

Why ??

Because of AAAAAAAAAALL the people along numerous Mp3Trading topics here writing that they don't want to buy a CD where they only like 2/3 tracks on it.

Yet they have no more excuse.

After that if one loves the work of so-and-so artist he always have the possibility to buy his alboms.

Then.... some people (maybe musician) might tell that there's a lack of respect for their work with such a formula..

I just tell them (absolutely no offence) then to call themselves in question if they don't sell. Just because their music is not yet in the right condition for masses response........
Just my two cents.

Cheers.           .

It's interesting....
there won't be anymore compils with titles like: Compiled by ....
Maybe compilations would be with more thought put into them. Some dude will compile, and offer compiled stuff from the label.

albums only I guess. maybe even albums compiled by ourselves with a selection of numerous tracks of the same artist.

Interesting indeed.

You're right P_Mac.

Those machines will probably only offer Top-of-the-pops artist materials. It's not tomorrow that we'll find the latest Ticon or Chi- AD tunes on such device IMHO.

Wait and see...

Not interested at all...15 euro for some upgraded 50 eurocent CDR? Many people have burners at home so they can make an Individual CD themselves...How revolutionary...The digital file format is portable so one of the benefits is that u can download them from the lazy chair without going to some music shop, boutique or petrol station...

This one ain't gonna fly...since the idea is nothing special...ridiculous even...Isn't one of the benefits of the Internet the shortening of the distribution chain...This adds some middleman to a process that can be plain and simple.

Offer CD quality ISO images at a website for a decent price...The only option of legal distribution of online music I am interested in.

And whats wrong with artists albums...A collection of self compiled stuff is no collection at all...I like having stuff like Pleiadians-IFO and TIP-Mystical experiences in my collection.

what about new and unknown artists?
nowdays, if you a see a new artist released on a big label, you can surely know he's worth it.
but when you see just the trackname there's a smaller chance you will risk of buying something you don't know, other than the new ticon track. (i'm talking about most people)
and don't tell me about track review websites cause alot of people still don't have internet, don't understand english properly, and in the end - it's about taste so i find it hard to believe i could 100% indentify with someone's taste in music.           REHAB is for quitters

Good point Gilad. I myself discovered lots of great artists thanks to compilations in the mid-90's, which I had initially bought only for a few titles.

To go even further, spending some money on a "professional" comp may make you try a bit harder to appreciate what you paid for.

I'm not saying that you're bound to love all the tracks on the comp because you paid for it, but you'll probably give them a better chance to grow in you than if you downloaded them for free over the Internet and just listen to it once and decided it wasn't worth losing some space on your HD.

I have comed to the conclusion that for me as an artists there only one way forward as the situation is right now... and that is to NOT release any music or very very little music and keep the music for myself and use it when I DJ and play live..... This way I will have music that no one else have and therefore get the jobs I need to be able to put butter on my bread......It's sad that it have to be like this but it actually do work for some artists now...... Yes I wont be able to reach all people around the globe but at least I won't be ripped off by lazy, potato chip and coca cola drinking internet sharks!

Yeah I know mate
It make sense to do it this way and if more did the same people might start to wake up and start to appriciate artists work instead of stealing it.......

one question : if all ppl only would buy individual cd's, what happens to the original compilations/albums? sooner or later, labels would send their stuff directly to these machines, without bothering to release. i think this could be the death of cd, like we know it today.

very good point gilad. thats just true.

well, the human failed again.

(btw: as someone said, truly those machines wont offer any of our beloved music. they only offer stuff from particular labels.)

and again i must speak of the artwork and cover. i wont buy anything that doesnt contain these. never ever.

and again: 15 euros are still more than 0 euros.
