In which direction would you like the "psytrance boat" to sail ?

We see how the psy music and everything arounds it changes with time, new styles are being born, some change, some blend with others, news ways of creating sound ,new music technologies etc.

We can also see how what originally was called "goa" is like a tree who has grown new branches called everything from "psytrance" to "full on" to "progressive trance " to "dark psy" to "forest psy" to "suomi" etc, you get the point.

All having their own "trademark" when it comes to sound creation and structure but still with underlying similarities.

We can see that psytrance has started to move into different directions, then one can ask oneself, does it make it bigger ? Or does it make it less unified and more diversified ?

If one has to think about that, then one should ask oneself what is the core that would bind them togheter? What is the red line that is present in all the directions, because if that is lost then it has become something else.

For me the red thread that is present in psytrance in the present now and that was present back when goa emerged is the psychedelic part ,the mind exploring part, the part which makes the listener turn deeply inwards.

Somethings i would like to see in this music is this:

I would like to see more deep full on without vocals and guitar solos.Full on without the childish cheeze but still without the intense ,twisted psychedelic part.

I would like to see less horror psy,psy which only has the intention to try to be spooky instead of being psychedelic.Instead i would like to see more serious and mature acts when it comes to the twilight music.Something that just is hard intense and psychedelic without trying to be scary and bad and without the use of lots of horror movie samples, screams, etc.

I would like to see many sober and happy people dancing and smiling and not just people being totally wasted . Luckily there is some of them.People who not just are after some shorts years of "mad" parties being wasted and then think it is a toxic and decadent culture just because they had that sort of relationship to it.I would like to see people being in a healthy and good relationship towards it,not like something toxic but as the opposite, something that is good and healthy for you and others.

The quote “Be the change you want to see in the world.” I think is very good.In this case
“Be the change you want to see in the music" , is something for all artist to think about, they can cross genres however they wish,it is only their own thinking that can stop them, feeling limited to create music in a special way to be able to be boxed into the same map that already is there.Nothing wrong with that if one feels like it but all artist also has the ability to or at least to try to create a new map,a new direction,a new way of creating sounds or a mix between what already is there and with something new.

Everyone ,artist ,promoters, people in the "scene" ,decoration people, etc .Everyone can add their wanting of change by being the change themselfes. I think that is a nice thing.

I believe that the warm ,loving, vibe, feeling , is something that connects us all through the music. It is something good and healthy, although we may like all sorts of twisted and intense sonic explorations which we can learn more about ourselfes and the world and get exiting feelings and thoughts from there is still that feeling of freedom, love, compassion, joy, satisfaction, union with everything, that i think is like a backbone for this whole culture and without it all would be lost.

That is what i think.

What do you think ?

How would you like the future for psytrance to be,which new directions do you want it to take and what do you want to change and what to not change?

I would like it to take a more profesional direction, so artist could earn enogh to make a good living as in many other careers.

That dj's become important again, they are the ones who consume more music.

And also that in embraces the change, like ektoplasm, with quality realeses and a lot of innovation.

And that the psy heads stop their genrenazism.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

"professional" is another way of saying "elitist" in my opinion

I think music should be a democratic thing... when you say that musicians should be "professional" you take away the joy of creating music from those who are not amazing at it

I think creating music and playing it for others is a joy that everyone should share.

Nice post Fometrius.
I'd like it to be diverse, surprising, hypnotic. I'd like people to open their minds. I'd like genres labels and formulas dropped.
And I want back the DJs. Real ones, that can play more then 1.5 hours of the latest hits. Ones that can give people a few hours journey.           ---------------------------------------------

I'd like the psytrance boat to sail back home and restock the goods before setting sail again.

And I want those DJs Shahar speaks of.

They are definitely out there. The trend unfortunately (atleast around these parts) is that the organizers stuff the lineups at parties with 1 hour liveacts and 1-1½ hour DJ-sets so that it looks more impressive.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

I agree with the OP longer sets, more sobriety, less horror and more forest, less cheese/pop and more deep hypnotic journeys...

Personally i'd like to see the following changes :

1. Return of the good real parties. And not these all darkpsy, morning, prog only parties and fests. This is the main reason that has led to the copy-paste generation. Let all the like-minded people come under one roof have a good party like before. In turn you have great memories, and great quality!

2. Better organised structure/industry so that the artists can make a reasonable living. Embrace current conditions and evolve accordingly.

3. As Shahar mentioned, get back the DJs. And if you want to make a liveact, well then goddamn make it a minimum of 2-3 hrs as standard!

.. more to add!
