True, I understand. I don't expect anywhere near that on music though so back to my topic

i dont make 50,000 a year thats for sure...
but i eat . i dont buy gear except hard drives...
i dont currently have a home. im couch surfing from gig to gig and currently in finland of all places so its not like glamour central for my life or anything.. but my travels are paid- and my gig fees feed me, buy hard drives, and pay for the time when i dont have gigs... track sales can add up to a new computer after some long time...ummm what else... it comes from 100% pure dedication to the cause of being available to playing gigs and making tracks... i AM getting tired of carrying things around the face of the planet and WOULD like to have a place to plop and grow my vegetables and build an Earthship home preferably not too far from a major airport accessible with cheap public transport... but i digress...

i know a few others who are completely flexible this way and just going for it...
but all you gear junkies better have another source of money to buy gear...
and paying the rent is helped by having other things also...
basically there is no way you will make a living at it if you expect to be a consumeristic fat cat just living how you live when you have a job...
but if you are willing to be a fulltime music bum you can make a good life doing this and travelling...
please dont start. there are enough artists already and 20 million more waiting in the wings ready to release tracks tomorrow... very few have the dedication it takes imho... but what do i know.?
i think many artists are happy to release tracks and play phat gigs sometimes and have a life... if you want to do nothing except music move to somewhere where they have good social welfare programs and that will at least pay your rent

if you make commercial music of any kind then of course you might be good enough and well connected enough to make a great living at it...
even the commercial trance is not THAT popular compared to house or rocknroll or the mightiest of the mighty- hiphop so i have to wonder why to even bother to make commercial trance...
just make pop music if you want to make money money... or hiphop. its the most popular music in the world hands down...look it up.

I am pretty heavy into business and investing so I do have other options for support. I just know that if I have to punch a clock I won't have the flexibility it takes to be a musician. I know there are tons of people who would love to release tracks. I have the dedication it takes. Call me arrogant if you will but you'll know when I come with it I'm still learning but I have a vision for that which is not currently being done in trance and I'm working on developing my style so that I can bring my vision to life.

that is how much i expect to make working, not in goa

sorry to intercede here but remember this post isn't about rather i can get rich on playing trance. it's about rather i will be able to survive doing it. Surviving means about 17k per year.

100 000 dollars a year? That’s a pretty good salary imo. Why would anyone want to make that much out of psytrance music? Who needs that much money? No one should need to earn such high salary if releasing cosmic psychedelic trance music. It feels wrong. hm.. bla bla -- I got a decent yearly salary my self, but when I decide to quit and put my time on psytance. I won’t expect to earn piles of cash. I would be happy living in a jungle earning enough to buy spliffs ^^ .. money money money is evil…

Hm, let’s see, 100 000 – And I make around http://www.xe.com 53 000 Dollars!!! OH MAN; YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY 100 000 USD is??

OMG what´s up with you guys???
17k per year = surviving???
I´m jobless right now and have to make a living out of the "social welfare" which lies around 300€ - less than 400 US$ + the rent (about 480US$).
This means that less than 12k + the insurances (also included in the welfare of the german state) are already enough to survive. I must admit that its very hard and if i hadn´t some other income sources it´d be even worse.

Hehe, spytooned psytones, you got it
If I had to pay for that I wouldn´t get along. but what´s much more important is that you don´t support the mafia
What about you?

me? I've never had a profit. I and my house was some kind of Mushroom mafia dealer in Oslo and brown. Not for profit. But to be able to use without paying. Now, in Copenhagen.. I'm invisible. As the lawyer of a friend said to the judge. He buys in big quantum’s, not to sell, but to stay away from the criminal environment .. Good lawyer, no punishment.
