It generally takes about 2 months to get from mastering to printing to stores.... so take that 4 month thing that you had to do, and add on a couple more months to print and release (if the printer and distribution is on time)

Now, from that point hopefully your distributor will start sending money from the comp about 3 months after release date. Now every 3 months, you hopefully can pay off your artists (unless you advanced all of them) so maybe after 6-9 months you can actually afford to reinvest in another compilation, where the cycle starts again. There's always other factors and one important thing to remember is most of the time labels never break even on the comp, so they have to wait until they can afford to spend the type of money needed to release another one.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

well said Greg!

releasing underground psytrance nowadays has more to do with passion for the music than with anything else.

labels are people and people change their minds some time

i know many labels had 1 realese , and the reasons;

1.money - not break even on the first compilation may cause the guys behind it to think its not worth it

2.music - the compilation they made got so-so reviews and the artists not really advenced much from it and its just nothing special therefor they quit since it didnt got the reaction they hoped for.

3.friend - some times 2-3 friends open label and soon enough are not friends anymore...

4.its just people like we said , so one dude deiceded he wants to realese a cd not more and great why not

5.un-professional managment can be great reason , not sell due to no advertise , no income since refuse to become booking agency wich is actualy the hype now for artist way more then cds.. probably not sign any major artist to help promote the label etc. etc.

all in all there is nothing wrong with 1 cd label , as long its good one
