So the thing is.. i am watching all the time new labels getting opened, every single one is promising great releases in the future, perspective ideas... but after the first release - nothing! So, how many labels out there with one release and why is this happening?           VA - Momentum vol.1 - Compiled by PhaseTech

Still there are a few labels out there who have released just one album but its been better than 99% of the compilations out there.

But if it is so good, and if release got some feedback, why not releasing another? Thats why we have a few labels that lead the scene.. Instead of having a lot of labels that develop with time...           VA - Momentum vol.1 - Compiled by PhaseTech

Oh yeah, I misread your first post.

That was your question to begin with.

Well I guess the ones that have had a good success in their first release usually take a while to cook up the next chapter since expectations are very high...

Like Sanaton Recs. its always quality over quantity.

and the other issue might be internal problems since they are new and dont know how to manage the label once the wheels get turning.

Sometimes I wonder why labels take so long to release V.A.´s.

Buy the Tracks
Make the Cover
Press the CD
Sell the Art?

2 month work?

What about finding good music? That might take time, no???

Though, to be honest, most trance labels these days don't release good music, and then you are right. It shouldn't take that long.

Good VA's take a year+ to compile. Then throw in the fact that you need to keep those releases off the net in the meantime.

So yeah, for albums it's fine because the artist owns the music but for a 3rd party to compile a VA nowadays has very low probability of doing well(especially if put together in 2 months.) Good VAs takes time, and then making back that investment takes twice as long. So all in all.... realistically it takes like 2-3 years for a release to go through the whole cycle before you can reinvest.

But I feel most of the artists have many tracks already in the bag... they have gems, mediocre, old tracks , fresh tracks, and some tracks kept secret for their live/dj set.

So really,
once you have chosen the artists, you got to just run through their list of tracks they have to offer once you tell them how much you willing to pay...

If you have money to spend and time to dedicate 2 months on track selection ... I dont think it should take so long. Cause most artists have couple of magic tracks they wish to unleash if there is an agreement on a good price.

Unless for each compilation, only once the artist is signed he starts to produce a track for them?
But i dont think it works that way since some unreleased tracks are a year old before their official release.

And Im not sure bout the time period as you say for a top release. It would be more like less than a year wouldnt it?           No great genius has ever existed without some touch of madness...

well in all honesty i've heard from some felow friends better tracks then on various VA's or other releases...

not sure why that is though

that doesn't mean the cd's or VA's are bad but mostly just a lot goes unnoticed           no situation is stronger then a heart that dares to love
so may the force of life light and love be with you

I cant speak for other labels but we at Amaris don't make a living out of the whole label and psy scene(I wish)but we do it because we love psy and feel the only way to give back to the community is by releasing music.
We don't keep a schedule as to when we want to do a release or anything like that, when we feel its time to release we will go ahead and do just that.
All i can say is that we are very much around and will release more VA's

OK people thanks for the answers. Some things got crystallized now.

the next thing that comes to my mind is: whats the criteria for a good VA?

i compiled a free net release for our org. that should be out in Friday. so, it took me about 3-4 months to collect all tracks, get artwork and mastering too. but the thing is that this is net release so i guess it would take a bit longer to release a CD.

but in the end, i must admit that i put a lot of energy to connect with people and try to explain my vision. and maybe that was key for having this nice connection between tracks. some people will say that its just a collection of progressive tech trance tracks made for listening, dancing, playing, enjoying. but for me its a very special concept

and then we come to the most important thing that's IMO the most important factor to make a good VA: concept. its the thing that connects everything: music, artwork and the whole feel. and thats very thing is missing in the most of the today's releases.

so, is that because label managers and DJs who compile VA's just get all the tracks that can in a short time and get it published hoping it will get selled? i dont know that, but i did all my best just for a free release...           VA - Momentum vol.1 - Compiled by PhaseTech
