How many CD's sold

How can we know how many CD's an artist has sold ?
Usually there is information on artist XXX that he sold XXX million albums, how do we know about trance artists ?

We cant know for many reasons.
One of them is that cd's get reprinted many times for a long long time in the future.
Another reason is that companies dont really say the truth on how many copies the have sold.
And last but not least when you ask how many cd's an artist has sold you really ask how many cd's has his label distributed because lets say that 5000 cd's has been distributed worldwide this doenst mean that they have all been sold.The artist might just sell 2000 and the others after some time go for recycle

I read an article were they showed sold album numbers. ( not trance)
Also for all kind of charts, they have to know the exact number of sold albums.
How do they know ?

They dont.
They just exagerate the numbers so that they can achive more sales
The only thing that you can know is how many cd's have been reproduced and thats all.

Samsara you have to contact the people in the factory that they reproduce the copies of the cd's in order to find out.
So contact the label and see with whom do they collaborate for the cd's reproduction and just call them to find out.
P.S this info might not be available for the public so i am not sure if you can ever find out the real number.If you are a guy from the label offcourse or the artist himself then you can get the info more easily

just so you get the feel of our very small market:
an average trance CD sells about 2000 copies.
The hits sell 5000
Atmos sold 12,000 (or so Anti said)
Infected 25,000 from the first and simmilar from the second.
Eyal barkan 50,000
Halucinogen - Twisted about 85,000 and is the biggest selling trance album.
This is WORLD WIDE...
A relativley unknown rock band in NYC can sell about 10,000 copies of nothing.
