In many cases the artists themselves don't know how many copies they sold cause the label don't tell them!!

ok, few thoughts about this subject -
artist realy hardly can know how many his cd sell. why ?? becoze he dont have any way to check it,exept trust the label...
label know exactly how many cd's sold,coze disttributer have to order cd from a label.. easily label know how many sold.. distributer ordered four times 100 cd' = 400 cd's sold.. the label get money from distributer and distributer get the money from a shops.. (in case of commision distributing is litlle different, but in commision u check every month/two weeks with a shop how many they sold and then u get your money about pieces that sold)..
how label FUCK the artists ?? very easy..
they print 5000 cd's for example and say to artist he will get 10% from every cd that sold.. they put 5000 cd's at their store (not shop) and artist can come and check how many cd's there.. its a only way to artists try and check the things.. in the same time label print 2000 pieces more (artist dont know about that) and they sell mainly from this 2000 and a litlle from a 5000, so if artist come and check by himself he find that not many cd's sold and he not get any money...
i dont say every label do it, and more - i dont know any label that do it, but i know about some firms in other kind of buesness that make this trick, so i guess is not a start up now...
yossi - how label will not know how many they sell ?? they get distributer order = they send him cd's = they get payment...

ah, i didnt explained the payments every side get:
distributer get the sell taxes..
label get the wholesale price..
artist get nothing or 10% of every cd or so..
shop get the full price - wholesale price - distributer taxes - artist part...
well, too bad my teachers dont read it

Well artist have usually the right to edit ( send an accountant ) to the label once a year, but I don't know if this would help or rather dammage their relationship.

in case where the distributer prints the cd`s and not the label. the label cant know for 100% how many they printed.
and in case of "licensed from..." same story.

in case of "licensed from" also no problems as i see that. u license some trak and make the payment for a trak, means - pay for each trak. if the price is good for u, take it..
back to the subject - imo, no way to artist to check a real how many sold.. no way for us to know that as well.. but,hey !! lets just listen to it..

In France,
gold = 100 000
Diamond = 350 000 ( i'm not 100% sure, maybe 500 000)
platinium = 1 000 000
I got the total figures sales about the 3 albums of Transwave : 60 000, i take it from a french musical magazine 'Coda'.
They also tell that export represents 95% of total sales.
As you can easily guess, never a trance or chill-out artist reach Glod status in France.

In Israel Contrary, Infected's 1st and 2nd sold gold.
Eyal Barkan's "Over the sunrise" and Astral's "Dancing Galaxy" went gold.
And i know also that Yahel is selling pretty well but i don't know if he recieved gold.
