I agree. It's a nice place to exist.
It's a shame there aren't more parties with ambient and downtempo music being played in Australia. (and please, if I'm wrong, tell me - I'd love to hear of them!!)
I've been loving chill for many years now and have almost given up buying the harder stuff. That said, I love a good doof dance as much as the next person...

there´s nothing better than wake up and <insert personal experience here> in a beautiful and peaceful chill out/dub soundtrack.. that´s my way to start a good day in peace despite the fact that i live in a packed stressful and problematic city(wich i love buy the way ).. sometimes i feel i just have to disconnect myself from this world and from everybody and there´s no better way to do it

You took the words right from me. I'm normally an exceptionally stressed and high strung person. I put on the headphones or sit down to mix a bit and it all just melts away. It's the only time I really feel comfortable within my own skin. (Not really as sad as it might sound ) |

Yeah, some people have sport or art or craft as a hobby. Mine is just sittin' (or standing as the case may be) behind the decks and creating a soundscape for an afternoon or an evening.
It's been my hobby for years and to tell the truth there's nothing i enjoy more in my spare time.
In about two weeks a baby will be joining the hosuehold, which is pretty special, so it'll be interesting to see how much time is left for music. Although both me and my partner are planning to infuse music into the child's upbringing all the way. And one day i'm looking forward to teching him/her to mix it up on the decks...
Aaah.. music. |

I must congratulate you for your kid, he'll probably be a nice person living in a chilled ambient. I love kids and i intend to have one some day (maybe 2?)... having a child must be an incredible experience... all the best to your family and it's new member
boom.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm hoping for a nice chilled child. He/she will definitely have great soundtrack to grow up with over the coming years.
I'm sure it will be incredible. I can't wait to meet the little tacker...
Thanks for the well wishes.

Hehe.. just read the other topic. It seemed to get hijacked a bit there by another argument. Anyway, yes, i agree.
I've played three times at Rainbow Serpent Festival (Aust) in the Chill area. The first two times there was a couch to sit on while dj'ing, which I found really nice and relaxing, especially being that most other people were sitting or lying as well.
This year these was a couch, but the decks were raised, so if you sat on the couch you were hidden behind the decks. I ended up sitting and standing at times, but mostly standing.
I much preferred sitting. Tho it is harder to tap my foot when i'm sitting, which is sometimes what i like to do when i'm beat mixing.. but i'm digressing..
Anyway, as an aside, the dj after me had a drummer's stool which he used, so he had the best of both worlds: sitting down and being seen.
So yeah, long story short, I agree. In many chill situations the experience is enhanced if the dj is sitting down. If all or most of the punters have to stand (eg in a bar) then the dj should stand, but if everyone else is sitting/lying, then so should the dj.
I wish it was Rainbow Serpent again already!! (only 9 months to go!) ;-) |
